It got even more lopsided yesterday. Hutchinson is the only team not ranked in that regional. You should be proud to have that many good wrestlers in your REGION of the state. The regional pairings should not have anything to do with one mans very educated guess at the conclusion of the state tournament. Regionals should be the best from the region that you live in. At the moment the majority of the best wrestlers live in the south, south west part of the state.

At the moment the majority of the best wrestlers live in the south, south west part of the state. 4A has a little different twist to it, like many years Holcomb and Uylsses have traveled to the Wichita area and Topeka teams travel West. It makes even less sense at times.

I don't think any teams plan on skipping Regionals. If you have a hole in your tire, it will still hold air for a while, but it is best to fix the hole.

If you guys think that I started this post to complain you are sadly mistaken! I am always proud to belong to such a tough regional year in and year out! The cream indeed rises to the top and that cream usually comes out of tough regionals whether it be 3A all the way 6A!! I will guarantee that Eric Johnson isn't far off with his rankings and come Feb. 27 we will all see just how close he really was! Good luck to all the rest of the season!

Your good coach, never crossed my mind. Good tournament last weekend, first time I have been there. Lot of great wrestling and talent in one building.

To summarize the data, it sure looks like the Wichita or the Southwestern part of the state has stronger wrestling than the eastern Kansas City/Topeka region. You look at 4A and 6A, you will see a similar pattern. The crazy part about it is it's been like that for 40 years. Of course there's a few exceptions, and KC area always puts some studs out. But team wise, its always a measurable disparity in depth. I always thought the eastern part of the state would catch up some day, but I don't see a break in the pattern in the near future.
