I wanted to update you on the KSHSAA Girls Wrestling Sanctioning process. I feel that the 2017 wrestling season really propelled girls wrestling forward in Kansas. Major changes took place this season to give Kansas high school girls the opportunity to wrestle against their own gender. The KWCA as a group stands 100% behind the proposal to sanction girls wrestling in Kansas.
*** The next step in the sanctioning process is the girls wrestling proposal will be presented to the KIAAA (Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association) at the April 2-4, 2017 meeting. If the proposal gets a 70% approval vote it will automatically go to KSHSAA. So you advocates, be sure your AD’s are prepared to cast their approval vote at the KIAAA meeting!
Finally, the below link is to YouTube video produced at the KS Girls Championship Tournament hosted by McPherson High this past February. Thirty-six Kansas high school wrestling teams participated in the event! As you watch the video you will see several girls interviewed with additional footage of their matches. The video was produced by the national organization “Wrestle Like a Girl” who attended the event. It’s an incredible video giving insight to these young ladies, who so badly want the opportunity to wrestle against their own gender.
Enjoy, and feel free to share the video with other! If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
