We are relatively new to post season wrestling and wondered what the general consenses is on end of season weight changes? My son wrestles in a class about 2 pounds over his regular weight and has done so in every tournament this season. Now as we get into post season action people have begun to migrate to and away fron his class. In discussion with some parents they have stated their intent was to escap certain competition, either below us or with us and others in our weight class. I'm not sure that requiring a wrestler to compete a minimum number of matches at their post season weight choice wouldn't be a fair idea. You thoughts please.

Ah, the sub-district shuffle...LOL. This is, and has always been normal activity.....although I personally think it's a little CS to run from anyone.....it's reasonable to want a bracket that gives your kid the best chance to make State.
Seriously, my H.S. kid is used to sucking weight, and can move up or down 10 lbs in a few days at will, but my little guy is a different story. I always wrestle him a bracket up to allow for growth spurts, after a lesson at the Classic a few years ago. Try to explain to a teary-eyed 6 yo why he needs to run non-stop for an hour at 6:00 a.m. without breakfast so he can lose a pound. (He had been making weight all year without trouble until that tourney).
For just this type of reason, it wouldn't be reasonable to punish a youngster who gained a few pounds and couldn't wrestle qualifying at his "normal" weight. Your rule proposal will never happen.

do you have to wrestle at least once in a weight class to be able to wrestle that weigh at state? or can you wrestle up all year then drop down to a weight class you have never wrestled in?

You can wrestle in any weight class you choose at any open tourney, as long as you can make that weight....the only exception being the weight limit rule for safety reasons. For instance, a 10 yo can't wrestle anyone who weighs more than 25 lbs heavier.
You can likewise wrestle any weight you want for state qualifying, regardless of what you wrestled during the regular season.
However, you are confined to the weight bracket you register for. If you don't make that weight at any of the three tourneys, you scratch. And no bracket hopping.
