I thought the tournament was ran very well. It was a long day of course but what 1 day tournament wouldnt be with 1800+ kids.

I do have one question regarding the Novice Division. Do you have a requirement/definition for a Novice Wrestler? Do you screen these Novice entries?

I noticed a kid that wrestled at 8U Novice 43/46 lbs that won and pinned every kid he wrestled was a 5th year wrestler that had 62 previous tournaments under his belt. I feel like the real Novice kids got worked over for their entry fee by letting this kid wrestle in the Novice Division. I would have been pissed if my 1st or 2nd year kid made it to the finals and had to wrestle this kid.

I really think its bad on his coach/director/parent for allowing him to wrestle in the Novice Division knowing dang well he is so far from Novice its not even funny.

Thoughts?

This was an outstanding tournament that was ran as efficient as possible in my opinion. This was our 1st year there and while we only had one kid in 8&U open, I couldn't have been more impressed. Very cool to see and what an opportunity in season for our Kansas Kids. Thank you to MWC for the long hours and putting your best foot forward. We will be back next year!

Thanks,

Our definition of novice is 2 years or less of experience. If they had a match before 9/1/17, they are ineligible for novice. We leave it to parents to police, just like Tulsa or USJOC. A little bitter about that division because it was our kid who lost to him in the finals of that age and weight. We allow bumps in weight so we do not release a wrestler list. After some issues we had this year, we will most likely have a zero tolerance for weight missed. This way we give people ample time to research this. I did receive a few emails on wrestlers that we had to look into. We moved them to the open division and charged the team the correct entry fee. Most were mistakes on entires. We realize we are not a Tulsa or even a USJOC, but are approaching the competition level of these tournaments (Maybe not Tulsa) and need to have rules set in place for this such thing.

Yeah....here is the worst part of that kid. Whomever registered him ranked him as a "D" so no flags popped up. He has wrestled since 2015 nearly 4 years. This kid is so beyond a Novice wrestler it's not even funny.

I wish my "D" level kid had won Liberty Nationals and hadn't lost since before Christmas in Open Tournaments. I would ban his ass from coming back to the tournament. He can keep his entry fee in his pocket next year!

It's really disgusting that a parent or coach would do this to come win a belt from a true Novice kid!

Their club will be receiving an email today regarding this wrestler. I'd like an explanation from the coach.
