The event falls on Easter weekend this year so dates are Thursday April 9th, Friday April 10th and Saturday April 11th. It is held at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This is one of the nation’s elite team events with top notch competition guaranteed. Our middle school and girl’s teams attend this event also. We will be finished wrestling on Saturday between 2 and 3. Anyone riding the bus back to Topeka should be there around 6pm or so.

The qualifying tournament for this event is Sunday March 1, 2020 at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center (formerly the Salina Bicentennial Center). This year, once again, Kansas is taking 6 teams plus alternates. We will be wrestling for 7th/8th at the qualifier so it is easier to select alternates.

Every year there are changes to the teams because of injury, etc. If a wrestler who finished above you at the qualifying tournament can’t go, you automatically move up one spot. In other words, if you finished fourth and the second place wrestler drops out, you move to third team and the third place finisher moves to second team. The placers below you all move up one spot and the 7th place finisher goes to Team 6 and the 8th place finisher then has the option of going as an alternate. The top 6 finishers in each weight will receive the required forms etc at the awards podium. The forms will also be available on the talk forum or I can email them to you.

We will meet at the Capitol Plaza Hotel – 1717 SW Topeka Blvd - Topeka, KS 66612 - Thursday April 9th between 9-10 am to pass out gear and load up on the buses for the trip to Council Bluffs. We will leave by noon in order to arrive and get checked in to our hotel before weigh-in. Weigh-ins are at 6pm and we will be there early to be one of the first in line to weigh in. All wrestlers have to weigh in on Thursday – there is no Friday weigh-in. I understand this location is not convenient for everyone. If it is out of your way to come to Topeka first, make sure you are at the Mid America Center in time for weigh in. I will give your wrestler their gear at the hotel in Iowa after the weigh in.

We will have 2 chartered buses for the wrestlers to ride on. Depending on how many alternates we have, there may be one van needed. We believe this is safer and it is one less thing to worry about.

We will post a link to the singlet designs on this forum once the designs are complete.

The wrestlers will be staying at the same hotels as last year – Best Western Plus at 2510 Abbott Plaza and Candlewood Suites at 2601 Abbott Plaza. These are right across the street from each other. There will have a block of rooms for the parents at both hotels and also an additional block at one of the other nearby hotels.

Will kids be designated to a certain hotel by age or weight class or even by how they finished?
I was hoping to book a room at the same hotel he'll be staying at...

All Elementary wrestlers stay in the Best Western. The Middle School wrestlers are split between the Best Western and Candlewood.

There are a few parent block rooms at the Best Western 402-505-4900 and Candlewood 402-342-2500
Another parent block is set up at the Holiday Inn Express 712-847-0777

Also working on another block at the Country Inn & Suites 712-347-5600

Ask for the Kansas Wrestling parents block at each one
