The 321A Pre-Season Rankings were posted last week.

Keep in mind I have not heard that many weight projections so these rankings are predominately based off of last year's state tournament results.

These rankings also include last year's 321A programs. I think we'll get official word from KSHSAA in December when Regional assignments are released of which teams have moved down from 4A or moved up in classification.

Please send me any weight projections, injuries, move ins or move outs, etc.

My email is wyatt_bechtel@yahoo.com or you can private message me on the forum if you prefer.

The 321A Rankings for the week of December 28, 2021 have been updated.

Note: The latest rankings do not include wrestlers who have yet to register a result this season. There are several wrestlers who are out with injuries and will be back in the rankings once they are back on the mat.

May want to consider Sammy Watkins from Hoxie at 170. Freshman the has 1 loss-First dual of year against Voss from Colby- has not lost since and has dominated several ranked wrestlers.

Watkins has been on my radar since the start of the season. 170 is pretty tough with five former state placers and a 3X qualifier all being in the top six currently. He'll have his opportunities to matchup with several of those wrestlers in the coming weeks.

At 182lbs...how is Tristan Vande Velde ahead of Kirchoff or Dinkel? I looked for wins that he may have had that would place him above. The only think I caught was Kirchoff beat Vande Velde at Beloit. Dinkel and Kirchoff are split 1-1 against each other. Maybe I missed something.

Maybe you're seeing different results, but according to the bracket on TrackWrestling, VandeVelde beat Kirchoff 6 to 5 in their only matchup of the season at Beloit. Kirchoff beat Dinkel in the blood round at Beloit 4 to 3. VandeVelde took 5th at Beloit, Kirchoff took 6th and Dinkel did not place.

Then at the MCL Tournament, Dinkel beat Kirchoff 3 to 1.

VandeVelde is currently (25-4). He is a returning state placer and two-time qualifer. He has a quality win against #5 in 4A Wheeler from Scott City, along with his head-to-head against Kirchoff. All of his losses are to ranked wrestlers, #1 in 321A Rodriguez from Southeast of Saline, #3 4A Harvey from Baldwin, #4 4A Miller from Concordia, and #4 Kays from Blue Valley Southwest.

Neither Dinkel or Kirchoff have a state placement, state qualification, head-to-head, or common opponent win to put them above VandeVelde.

You are exactly right. I went back and checked the bracket. My apologies. I remember watching the match in person and had thought Kirchoff had won, but I was wrong. Thanks for all you do.

The final 321A Rankings for the 2021-22 season have been posted.

Keep in mind these are the rankings, not a projected finish. There are some wrestlers ranked #1 and #2 who are paired up on the same side of the bracket, along with some ranked wrestlers who will likely meet one another in the blood round to sort out placement.

Best of luck to everyone out in Hays.
