Discuss Reminders: - Proposal here is in it's original form as it was submitted. This is one proposal and thus one vote
- Executive Board - Voted the following way:
1. 4 Yes, 7 No - Board No
Notes: This proposal was a little tricky because it read more like suggestions rather than actual bylaw changes. That being said, on the first point, this is a State Tournament Committee operation and not subject to specific bylaws. They must continue to be allowed the flexibility to schedule out the tournament in such a way it can be run efficiently. As we now have a different format, different way of running the event than in the past, this isn't really applicable anyway, so no vote on this
On point 2, As this proposal comes from two years ago and not last year, there were numerous changes enacted by Stormont in our most recent tournament to address issues like this and the response was much more positive. We are in contact with Stormont already making plans for next years tournament with the goal of improving issues like this even more.
Finally on the last point which can be considered a proposal, that being True 2nd. This submission is asking that we do away with True 2nd. Again as this was from 2 years ago when True 2nd was done in a completely different way that caused issues, majority of the board believes in continuing to include this in the state tournament, and this the recommendation by the board was to reject the proposal and keep it.
This was a proposal from last years State Body meeting that was never voted on, it is now coming up for an up or down vote.
*This proposal appears in the document: 2024 Bylaw Changes.pdf - 2/3rds State Body Vote is required for passage of this item.
Good afternoon -
I am writing as a spectator at the USAWKS competition in Topeka on March 9 & 10th. enjoyed watching all the wrestlers but a couple things really concerned me.
First- On Sunday, I would highly recommend that the high school age wrestlers NOT be the first to wrestle on the last day. It was very drawn out and the younger wrestlers were getting restless and even falling asleep. I do believe they were at a great disadvantage when it did come time to wrestle. Many of them were there from 8:00 in the morning until late afternoon, when some of them wrestled.
Second - If you do continue to have this event at the Stormont Vail Event Center, please make sure that they have enough staff to take care of the competitors and visitors. There was still 2 hrs of wrestling and and many of the food vendors had shut down. If we are not allowed to bring our own food/drinks in, then they need to be able to serve us.
Lastly, I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE "TRUE" 2nd place. It is telling a competitor that even if you follow all the rules of making it to the championship match, if you get defeated by the 1 st place competitor, you don't get 2nd but have to fight again for that spot. It's like telling the 2 teams in the championship basketball game that if you lose, you don't get 2nd place but have to play again to see if you really qualify for 2nd place. I am not aware of any other sport that does this. Plus if it is not done throughout the entire season, why do you do it in the end. The loser of the championship round is already disappointed because he/she lost and then realizes that even though they fought hard throughout the bracket and got to that point, it doesn't matter. So now they have to turn around and wrestle the 3rd place winner, whom is excited because even though they did not make it to the championship round, they get a "do over". This policy really was not thought thru entirely and needs to be looked at again. In the stands, I heard a lot of complaints about the rule.
