It is time for the return of the Kansas Wizzers of OZ. The Wizzers of Oz are Kansas wrestlers that are going to various tournaments that can affiliate as a team. Notice that on this team, it is not to take away from any other team, this is for those that don’t have a team going to a particular tournament. Last years first batch consisted of 6 wrestlers that went to Mid America Classic. This year we hope to hit several pre season tournaments, and hopefully a few after the high school season prior to the start of Freestyle / Greco.

There are benefits to this, in some situations we can save some on costs, (going together, staying together when need be, etc…) Another benefit is the opportunity to represent Kansas as a team, again, this was a blast last year getting to know each other and the experiences were a blast.

As of now there are various wrestlers that have asked to attend and go to several of the pre season tournaments. You can do this as a member of the Wizzers of OZ or not, but I am looking at putting the rosters and teams together for the various tournaments, remember that most of these tournaments have deadlines for signing up. Right now the tournaments that I am taking wrestlers to include:

Oklahoma Division 5 Tournaments:

October 22 - Altus (Birth Date guideline of not 16 before September 1, 2005)

Division 1-6 (includes high school wrestlers)

November 11 – Catoosa, (Note that we will take with the Wizzers only D5 & D6, this way we can wrestle the Broken Arrow High School Open Tournament on the 12th. Link to the Catoosa tournament is: http://66.221.143.76/youth/flyers/CATOOSA_OPEN_2005.htm

Kansas Pre Season Tournaments:

October 29 – Olathe - The Fall Brawl

November 6 – Emporia – King of the Mat Takedown

There are several people who have volunteered to help drive and transport at this time, which is great, and appreciated, especially for me on that November 6 date. Feel free to volunteer, help out, coach, etc. Call or email me as you need. Thanks again, and let’s represent Kansas well.

The link to Oklahoma weights is at: http://66.221.143.76/youth/07appendixb.htm It is possible that for some of the tournaments that there will be additional weights or allowances allowed, I would not count on it though. Oklahoma is normally pretty strict about making weight.

I did see that the Catoosa tournament is giving a weight allowance for D6.

Couple of things, I have had the family of the Union High School program in Tulsa offer to put our team up in Tulsa for the Catoosa and Broken Arrow Tournament. There is enough room for all of the wrestlers and those going to stay, this will save money on motels and so forth which is a good thing. I would imagine that for those two tournaments we would wrestle on Friday night, until late, then get up early and wrestle the tournament at Broken Arrow. Two great opportunities there.

Another note, I just had a phone call from Coach Holt, Coach at Lawton High School. He would also love to have our team go there for their tournament on November 5. The divisions for their tournament include, 6th & 7th grade, 8th & 9th grade, and 9th-12 grade. 9th graders can wrestle both divisions if they wanted to. Also a benefit to this tournament is that they would allow us to have a home weigh in here in Wichita or vacinity instead of having to drive there for the weigh in. They already have teams committed from El Reno Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Bishop Lynch in Texas. For those knowing something about wrestling, this would be a chance to wrestle some top notch competition. Let me know what you think and we can go from there.

Hey Mike I would like if you could enter me in some of those tournaments. I can get the money for the card and entry fee next week. I weigh about 110-111 so you can put me in the 103-105 weight classes just tell me so i can request off of work. Thanks Dante Rogers

Dante, get with me this week, I know that for the Oklahoma tournaments USA card is not required, but for the Fall Brawl it is.
