The dual will actually start at 5:30 pm with JV. It will be followed by Winter Homecoming ceremonies and then the varsity dual. Our high school alternates Winter Homecoming every 2-3 years, therefore, wrestling on a Friday night occurs.
It will be a great dual!!

Well what a great thing for the school to do. I think it is awesome that winter ceremony is on a wrestling night and to be honest- in Clay Center , they deserve it for sure. Alot of hard work and dedication in that program. From the little kids to the high school. Taking nothing away from Abilene as they to do a wonderful job.
Good Luck to everyone tonight-

Pratt Vs. Mulvane last Thursday went several layers (my son said seven, I don't know) down the criteria list, the team score was determined by most near falls in the dual. Long time ago I remember when we used to just say it was a tie and let it go at that. Seems like most near falls is getting pretty picky, in my opinion.

Wow. That sounds like the most delicious dual of all time. But a few questions:
1) What exactly is on the Criteria list? 2) What was the atmosphere of the Clay Center gym like? (I'm guessing morose.) 3) How many freaking kids are in the Rush family, and do their names all start with J? By my count, they're up to at least 455.

I counted that each team had 4 falls a piece so it wasn't tiebreaker off of falls. The tied on total matches. So wouldn't the tie breaker be tech fall making Abilene the winner?

Here are the tie-break criteria according to Rule 9-2-2 in the NFHS Rule Book.
1. Fewest flagrant or unsportsmanlike conduct penalty points.
2. Team who wins greates # of matches.
3. The team having accumulated the greater number of poits for falls, defaults, forfeits , or disqualifications wins.
4. The team having the greater number of points for tech falls wins.
5. The team having the greater number of points for major decisions wins.
6. The team having the greater number of first points.
7. The team having the greater number of points for near-falls wins.
8. The team having the greater number of takedowns wins.
9. The team having the greater number of reversals wins.
10. The team having the greater number of escapes wins.
11. The team who has been penalized least for stalling wins.
12. The team who has been warned least for stalling wins.
13. The team who has the fewest number of points for all other infractions (cautions, technical violations, etc.) wins.
14. If none of the above resolve the tie, either a tie shall be declared or the flip of a disk shall determine the winner.

I was not at the dual but based on the individual results shown above, it looks like they only got to the 3rd tiebreaker criteria. An ealier post indicated the most consecutive falls was the criteria. This is not even on the criteria list. I believe Clay Center won because they were the "team having accumulated the greater number of points for falls, defaults, forfeits, or disqualifications." This criteria does not include tech falls. Even though he lost 15-0, Clay Center's 103-pounder helped his team out by avoiding being pinned. Technical falls are not counted as highly as falls in the criteria for breaking team score ties.
Good Job Clay Center!! I'll bet nobody went home when the score started out as 30-0.

Clay Center won based on criteria #3, they had 4 falls + 1 forfeit and Abilene had 4 falls.
The amazing thing is that Clay Center was able to overcome their slow start. The score after 135 was Abilene 30 Clay Center 0. That is an impressive come back on Clay Center's part!

If I were the guys on that team I'd gladly trade a league championship for a state title, It sounds like Abilene is going to fare well at state this year and they will be plus 1 wrestler who wasn't in the lineup for this dual, it will be a barn burner, but congrats to Clay on the win nonetheless
