Mark Schieber vs. Curran in the semi-finals. Curran was looking like he was going to the wire but than Schieber front quatered him, through his legs in and pinned him. It was a very exciting match both spliting taken downs but Schiebs just had the uppper hand and pulled it off.

ENJOY!!!

There were a lot of people gone by the time the big boys were up. Bedore and Lewis was just an awesome match. Even if you don't like to watch heavyweights you would have like this. It was almost like watching lighter wrestlers go at it. After seeing that match I wished I would have seen their other matchups during the season. Bedore is just impressive. He is, by definition, a MANSTER.

321A State

I saw some of the best matches of my life at the 321A state tournament this weekend including one that my son wrestled in.

125#: Tait Weatherbee (TMP) vs Tyler Baker (Hoxie) quaterfinals. What a match 2OT.

Weatherbee

125#: Tait Weatherbee (TMP) vs Levi Younkin(Oakley) Finals. Weatherbee in two great matches.

Younkin

171# Chris Purcel (ACCHS) vs Derek Ross (St. Francis).

Purcel in OT.

I do believe that Ross got a bad call in the OT. So did most of the crowd as well.

Both of these guys are great wrestlers and it is too bad this wasn't a Finals Match.

Ross went on to pin his next three guys bringing his pin total to 4 @ the tournament, before winning 9-2 in the Consolation Finals.

I do not know Ross but I think he is an awesome wrestler.
Last year he lost his first match and wrestled his way through the back door to take 3rd.

275#: Michael Sprigg (Norton) vs Ryan Honas (Ellis)
Sprigg wins in OT to secure Nortons first Team State Title since 1973.

It was exciting, too bad more people did not stick around to watch it.

160# Dustin Foster (Sedgwick) vs Austin Kingsbury (Smith Center) Finals

Wow what a match!

First Period
No Score

Second Period
Kingsbury scores first on a reversal: 2-0
Foster Escapes:2-1

Third Period
Foster Escapes: 2-2
Foster Takedown: 4-2
Kingsbury Reversal: 4-4

Kingsbury hits a Peterson as soon as he hits the mat head first after being lifted and brought back to the mat under control. What an amazing move in that situation. There was literally .7 seconds left in the match.

First OT

Foster takes the shot, Kingsbury shucks and almost gets in the hole. Foster Scrambles out

Second OT

0:11 seconds left.

Kingsbury stands up.
Foster lifts him and again takes him to the mat head first (But Slowly and in Control). Kingsbury tries to Peterson, but Foster Sprawls and under hooks him. Foster takes him to his back for 2 backpoints.

Both of these wrestlers were just awesome all weekend.

Kingsbury beat Chance Harmon (27-1 Coming in)who beat him previously this year in the Semi Finals.

Foster beat Scott Christians who beat him previously this year in the Semi Finals.

This bracket had to be one of the most if not the most competetive bracket.

Congradulations to everyone!

Dawson- Bahe at 119 in 4A, Kriegbaum- Garcia at 130, Wiscombe- Erisman and Wiscombe- Metcalf were both very good at 152, Taplin- Strawn at 160. A lot of the Finals matches were very interesting and I enjoyed them.
Anybody know what happened to those two Wrestlers that were carried out on Stretchers because of some kind of neck injuries? What happened to them? Are they doing OK?
Oh, and also Flory and the Davis match at 171 was a good one.
Congrats to all that won and all that participated and came up short of their goals.

that brett mathews-chris jenkins match was good. I heard 189 was really down this year you know with jenkins getting second at regionals. Brett really showed everyne who is the boss by humiliating him in front of his whole family.

That wasn't a close call. Loyd should have been given the two points, and I think everyone in the collesium knew it whether they'll admit to it or not.

This year at Hays, I witnessed more great matches in two days than I have ever seen. It was an excellent tournament and extremely fun to watch.

No real controversial calls that could have decided the match, just great wrestling. It was great. And it's also nice to see a team state championship come down to the heavyweight match. Makes it so much sweeter.

No controversial calls? What? How bout the two stalling calls against Baker, he was being shoved out of bounds, not stalling. And the illegal hold, on a cross-face, couldn't see it that clear but again controversial. And the escape on the edge of the mat, again controversial. As far as I'm concerned Baker should've had it won in regulation. But hey thats just my humble opinion and about 10 thousand others.

I just wish the refs at the 125lb championships at 321a would have let Tait and Younkin wrestle instead of a stalemate call every 15 seconds. There were two very talented wrestlers on the mat. (College Level Performance) By calling this match this way really changed the outcome for both wrestlers. Both wrestlers were better than it showed due to oficiating. How about the stalemate call in the last 11.3 seconds of the match as both wrestlers were working intence to their feet. If you were a quality wrestler with 11 seconds, I'm pretty sure that you would not be holding on nor would the bottom man, a senior in highschool, take a defeat without finishing with all he has left? Once again, good job too both wrestlers. But too future officials in the finals, let the kids decide the match. Nice wrestling this weekend Tait weatherbee, nice to see a technician as yourself enjoy wrestling the competition.
