From the looks of it on Hovey's site he forfeited the consolation championship match and will still be going to state.

Knox will be going to State. Knox lost in the semi-finals, won his match in the consolation semi-finals, and forfeited the consolation finals match.

Wow...(and now the motto of the story as sung to the musical Annies' ever popular song Hard Knock Life...with new origional words by THE SWAYZ!) ________________________________________________ it's a Hard Knox life for us...it's a hard Knox Life for us...instead of wrestling for 3 or 4, throw a fit and head out the door, It's a hard knox life. _________________________________________________
This is the one lined version of the song...too much time to still write all my write ups for this weeks paper.

Charles:
Thank you for the update. I left the tournament at 5:30 P.M. to travel to Andale to watch my oldest son wrestle in the 4A Regional Finals.
I was not aware Charles was not present for his match. How unfortunate!

From my experience with Knox, he is a good wrestler, but a HORRIBLE sportsman. I think he should've been given the boot from wrestling because of his little outburst at state last year, or maybe it was two years ago, but after I beat him this year, he was all the sudden injured, then he quit the tourney. That is just being a sore looser.

There has been ongoing discussion between West High School and KSHSAA regarding this incident.
Final resolution of the matter is yet to be determined.
As I understand the matter, there will be a telephone call made to the National Federation of High Schools for discussion and a final rules interpretation.

Let him wrestle, its his senior yr. he is quite the spark plug when it comes to wrestling and its always "interesting" seeing him explode in a match anyways. Its good for fans to see some whacky behavior.

Mr. Knox obviously didn't want to be there, or he would have shown up. if he was worried about his senior year, he would have been there to sign the bout sheet and advance. if he didn't have the courtesy to show up and sign the bout sheet, then he should be subject to the penalty for that. A lot of wrestlers that came close this year would sure like to have had the opportunity that mr. Knox threw away.

Maybe this was an honest mistake. He handled his loss graciously and was nothing but a gentleman all day. I wonder if he thought the consolation and championship matches were going to be wrestled side by side at 6:30. He did come back but it was too late for the match.

It sounds like an honest mistake to me, however he should have consulted his coach, or tournament director as to what time the matches were being held. If he had thrown a fit after losing like last year than i think the decision should be that he stays home, however, he did not from what i am hearing so i say let him wrestle at state.

One thing to keep in mind is he had to wrestle a match after his loss to qualify for state. If he really went awol, he wouldn't have even shown up for that one. He qualified for state fairly. Let the kid wrestle.

Charles Knox Jr. returned in time to wrestle in the consolation matches - the time listed for the 3rd and 4th place matches was 5:30 but it started at 5:16. He arrived at 5:33- My vote - let the kid wrestle.

I was at this regional and was surprised when it started early. I was no Knox fan but think he is getting the shaft on this one. He handled his loss well. Made an honest mistake and shouldn't be penalized for an early start time.
