Bell, Hamilton, Crumbliss, Heckel are all excellent wrestlers who didn't make it out of regionals due to not being able to make weight. Should we go back to on-site weigh-ins for all tournaments and duals during the season?

Why is that the minute someone doesn't make weight we have to assume there was cheating? If a good wrestler loses a match to a lesser one, do we assume he threw the match to pay a gambling debt or something?
Remember, we are talking about 14-18 year old kids who sometimes leave their brains in their other hat. Sometimes they just plain screw up. I realize that conspiricy theories are much more fun, but c'mon.
Suggestions like that are a slap in the face of the wrestlers involved, their coaches, their schools and wrestling as a whole in this state.

Kids are growing all year long and trying to hold a consistent weight. It happens every year to some of them. They have all made weights at various tourneys throughout the year. The kids you are talking about have been to two day tourneys, they just didnt make weight this time. Some of them just outgrow their weights and this time of year is extremely tough on them if they were tight at the beginning of the year.

S Biddle - What was the injury? Didn't he break his leg last year? Too bad, I was looking forward to watching a Crumbliss vs. Deshazer rematch.

tkdwn42 - Who is assuming that cheating had anything to do with these individuals not making weight? It is a shame that they won't be at the state tournament because they are all excellent wrestlers who all would have likely placed. The one thing that they all have in common is that they are all at lower weight classes and as Westphal points out if they are "tight" with their weights at the beginning of the year and not allowing for any natural growth making weight at the end of the year is going to be extremely difficult. My point is that if they are making weight and having to wrestle 2 hours later as they will have to do at regionals and state on a consistent basis (more than 1-3 times per year)they (with their coaches guidance) will be better able to decide which weight class will best suit them before it's too late. Does anyone know if this not making weight issue is as prevalent at the higher weight classes?

It usually is not. I know in the old days when we got five pounds at Christmas for growth allowance this didnt happen near as much. People are always reinventing the wheel you know. They decided that if they didnt give the five pounds then kids wouldnt lose weight. Thats crap. People are going to cut weight because they want the most advantage for the buck. That is just always going to happen. We sort of ignore the fact that kids grow and we penalize them for it. I lobbied the state for years to cut out the second weigh in at state because it is stupid to weigh in twice in one day and hold weight all day long. Their answer is that they shouldnt lose so much weight. Some answer there, coming from guys that have a 30 buck a day food allowance.

I dont really know for sure but i think it was a shoulder. I heard it on the radio, him and Matt Chastain(sp) both from Ark City with shoulder injuries.
