How much money is spent putting on the Metro Classic and Senior Classic. Could it be better spent? When these 2 events are done and over with, everyone still debats which class is better and which state is better.

How much would it cost to put on a 1 day tourney, 8 man bracket with the 4 State Champs from each weight from Kansas vs the 3 State Champs and 1 wild card from Missouri in each weight class.

Missouri in one half of the bracket so they crown a grand stater in the semis and Kansas in the other half so they crown a grand stater in the semis, and then in the finals crown a By-State Champ per weight class and a Team Title at the end. (Kansas or Missouri)

No seeding, just draw for the Kansas half of the bracket and the same for the missouri half.

This would be a huge fan draw and I cant help but believe the gate would pay for the venue, refs, etc.

Would that be cool or what?

That'd be sweet as sugar.

Seriously, that tournament would have some badass dudes doing it out.

if you have 4 and 4 how about you just do like they do in dual format and let you do a pool/round robin with the top two moving up and such?

I helped with the match this year and have off and on for quite a while. This year with Troy Hodges sick a lot of us had to do what he had been doing all this time. Gary Ulmer did the bulk of the work and for those of you who don't realize it, this meet takes enourmous planning and effort. It is one of the showcase events in town now and has grown so much over the years. I know that Kansas lost this year but hey that is going to happen from time to time as this things moves through the years. Those of you who continually cry for something better or something more should realize the scope of what it has taken to do what we have done to make it what it is now. Sometimes you would be better served to just enjoy a very good thing instead of constantly harp on how it should be different. I know one thing, it sure isn't crowded in the volunteer room when we sit down to do this thing. The same people do it every single year and there is NO LINE forming to help us with it.

Wow dude. I really dont think anyone was even remotly trying to say you did a bad job or your efforts werent appreciated. Its just an idea and ideas are how things change over time.

Just think, if someone years ago wouldnt have come up with the idea to do the metro classic you wouldnt have gotten to work your a*s off this year putting it on.

I still think it would be an incredible tournement.

We just have a pretty rough time putting on a duel and finding enough people to do the work necessary to put that on but hey "Dude" if you all want to put that together I think we should sit back and watch you do that. Power to you.

I am sure you have heard the thought that ideas are like a certain body part, everybody has one.

So Bernie, you're saying unless Westfal does it, it won't happen. That is pretty much what he was saying. Those guys who put the metro on put a lot of energy into it (by no means am I giving westfal all or even most) of the credit but his point is well taken.

No, thats not what I was saying. I was trying to be funny because that was what westfahl was saying.

I do not know westfahl or any of the people who put these events on. I was not complaining about the Metro or Senior Classics. I appreciate all the time that those who put these events on spend each year doing it. If it came across that way I apoligize.

My first post was simply and idea that I felt could possibly address several different issues that I read about on this forum all of the time.

People are always on here talking about grand state, best class, best state, etc, etc.

Everyone knows that KSHSAA is not going to bring back Grand State so I simply brought up the Metro & Senior classics as a way of funding and putting on another event away from KSHSAA control.

Thats all it was. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Actually I don't do much of it, my only job was getting the mat and setting it up but Coach Ulmer did an amazing job with it and Coach Hodges has, for years, worked tirelessly to make it happen. I have just listened for the past couple of weeks to everyones ideas on how it should be done or what ought to happen and knowing how much coaches on both sides of the lines have worked to make this thing a success, I just feel sometimes things are pretty darned good. You are both right, you don't know me and that is irrelevant anyway.

It is not irrelevant to say that I dont know you and since you dont get it I'll explain.

Saying that I dont know you inferes that there is no previous bad blood between us and that my coments in regards to you are not an attempt to settle past scores.
