Hoxie clearly is the team to beat. I do think they could be beaten but someone better pack a lunch to do it. I think Norton has 4 kids looking real good, well 3 plus Johnson who has yet to wrestle. It is possible Norton could have 4 champions, yea that is saying a lot and it probably won't happen but if they did thay could really challenge for the title. I am just not sure how good they are beyond the four kids. Effingham has a good program and i understand some of those kids don't plan on getting on weight till after the holidays. I also heard they "could" have only 5 or 6 jrs and Srs starting with 8 or 9 freshmen and sophomores possible. They may come on but that is pretty young. I would put Wellsville, Oberlin, Oakley, Rossville and Sabetha in the mix.

Fanatic, I will agree that oberlin may be in the mix, but other than Pyle who does sabetha have?? And Wellsville? I don't know but they were not even in the top four at the ACCHS tourny a couple weeks ago. They have patton, Roberts, carauthers, that's about it. Beloit should be ahead of them even. Rossville could get there, but has not been impressive in tourny's so far. As far as Effingham goes, I know they return 7 state qualifiers. Lyons at 215 is tough and so is oswald at 140, weber 145, sprang 130, and young at 275. Pursel is ranked at 160 and they have a couple good sophs and fr. filling in the other wt's. Oakley has agood program as well. But for now, I still have to go with the same top three-Hoxie,NOrton, Effingham!!!!!!!!!!!

Hoxie Invitational Hoxie puts 10 in the finals, 2 place 3rd, one defaulted out of the tournament due to a season ending injury and the other did not compete (for a total of 14). 200 + team points. Norton was a distant second some 40 points +/- behind. Norton ranked 2nd in 3-2-1a

Hoxie vs Oakley Dual - Oakley won three matches in the dual. Oakley ranked 5th in 3-2-1a

Colby Dual Tournament results -
**Oberlin won one match against Hoxie in the dual
**Liberal won zero matches against Hoxie in the dual
**Phillipsburg won two matches against Hoxie in the dual
**Scott City won three matches against Hoxie in the dual - Scott City is ranked 10th (?) in 4A
**Shawnee Heights won five matches against Hoxie in the dual - Shawnee Heights ranked 3rd in 5A
**Concordia won two matches in the dual (and Strait forfeited) - Concordia is ranked in 4A
**Garden City won four matches against Hoxie in the dual - Garden City ranked 3rd in 6A

Top to bottom....bottom to top, this year's version of Hoxie wrestling is the best team I have seen in recent memory in the 3-2-1A wrestling ranks. And the scary thing is they are young and should improve even more as the season goes along.

Maybe i am just weird or somehting but I kind of thought that Plainville would be pretty good this year... I know they have been havin trouble gettin all their guys in the line-up, but I think the will do good at state.

With Wellsville, they have Cody Gardner (state placer in 02) Kyle Patton(three time state placer, two time defending champion) Chris Caruthers (Two time state placer) Dustin Gardner (State placer in 01) and Todd Roberts (who has never placed at hs state)

Hoxie is a good team. I believe that they might be the best in the state. But we will all see when they wrestle at Newton(maybe i dont know if they are going to be there and the beloit tourney will be a good one to see how good they really are

have not heard for sure, but Newton is not currently on the Hoxie activities calendar.

They will be in Beloit again this year. And that will be a good one - Hoxie, Manhattan, Clay Center, Colby just to name a few.

I think the Georg kid at Sabetha 103 and White at 125 are possibilities along with Pyle. I don't really think Sabetha is a top 5 but they should get a lot of kids to state and score. I also do not think Wellsville is a top 3. They do have some good kids but Patton is in a tough weight and no cinch for the finals. Caruthers and The bigger Gardner are probably placers but I am not sure of anyone else. The team that I have really thought has not wrestled up to par so far is Rossville. I know they got a late start after football but frankly I am very surprised with their lackluster performance so far. Who would have guessed some of those kids would struggle early? Beloit has a few good kids but from what I saw at Clay Center, i would not put them in the top 5. I haven't seem Oberlin and Oakley but they do have some kids back who have done ok before. Oh Yes....Les give it a rest.

Well Fanatic...you're a poet. Just keeping you informed of Hoxie's progress, Fanatic, since you've previously indicated they might be vulnerable.

Hoxie went 5-0 at the Goodland Dual Tournament today. Beat Goodland, Ulysses, Leoti, Burlington (CO) and Scott City.

Would agree with Fanatic that Oakley and Oberlin each have some kids that could make a run this year. Bobby Dennis has talent, little Younkin has looked tough, big Younkin will win his share of matches, Kuhlman and Wilson have each held their own so far. Little Dennis has taken some lumps thus far, but certainly has potential.

Oberlin is stacked pretty well through the low-mid portion of the weight classes and are capable of winning a lot of matches.

Norton and St. Francis will also do well, despite their youth. Keep your eye on each of them for the next several years, as they both have quality young talent.

Atwood has several opens in the line-up, but the kids they do put on the mat will be fun to watch - especially in the upper weights. They could do some serious damage at 189, 215, and 275.

Merry Christmas to All!

I don't no if atwood does much damage at 275, except for fashion damage due to heath klein's army crew cut

Yeah i can see Hoxie is the favorite at this point, they got some really tuff kids coming back from 119-140. Effingham has 7 state qualifiers coming back with 3 of them being placers. Along with them 7 are 4 tuff ones that are varsity for their first years, 1 coming from belleville(171).
Norton and Oakley either lack numbers of quality wrestlers that will place. It's obvious Hoxie and Effingham will be the top two teams this year at state.

Norton has more state placers returning than effifngham, plus many good freshmen. Why is effingham obviously better?
