Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School It's all about the learning, right?

The "BEST COACHES" thread got me thinking, and I decided to make a new topic. This post doesn't have much to do with wrestling, but since they haven't yet set up an education forum, I figured I'd post it here.

We talked about the best coaches, and I'm sure all the names mentioned were outstanding, but what coaches are also outstanding teachers? After all, that's how they're employed in the first place, right?

Great topic--the complete coach, in my opinion, is also a coach of the mind. My hometown of Pratt is very fortunate to have a coach named Bruce Kocher that is a great English teacher, and a coach that respects intelligence and character. Mr. Kocher spends extra time with parents and is always supportive with respect to the positive aspects of a student or competitor's positive potential and I respect him greatly for his efforts. Teachers/coaches such as Mr. Kocher are a definite asset to any school system. I feel fortunate to have a son in his educational/athletic program.

I think there are lots of coaches that are also great teachers. Coaches that emphasize not only a strong body for wrestling, but also a strong mind for life are great. Teaching kids about not only the sport of wrestling, but the "sport" of life is what the big picture is all about. Any coaches have a particular program, or way of teaching kids about both out there? I am a current coach and future teacher and would love to hear some helpful insight.

You don't find many EX-NFL stars/high school football coaches/exemplary elementary educators.

Rob Dennison, Shawnee Heights, was assitant coach of the year last year, and he is also a good math and computer teacher. Not to mention, he likes good music!

Excellent call on Cleve Stark, Dingbat. I never had him myself, but I hear he is uberteacher.

I would also like to toot Wee Loodford's horn, for being an outstanding US History/Government teacher. I decided to forego AP government my senior year to enter his regular government class because I knew I would learn a lot more. It's like the History Channel every day. It's beautiful.
