how will this work this year? Say a wrestler is 135lbs with a body fat of 4.2%. What is the lowest he can wrestle at? What is the max he can lose per week.

How will this rule affect all wrestlers trying to drop weight.

i was talking about high school only. actually i was speaking to this:

1-3-2c State associations that have hydration and body fat testing along with a program to monitor an average weight loss of 1.5% a week, with descent, may use the minimum weight determined by the body fat testing as the lowest weight a wrestler may wrestle during the state series instead of at least one-half of their weigh-in during the season as stated in Rule 1-3-2b (states may still use the 50% rule, if they wish, even though they meet the above criteria).

I believe the rule of thumb for the states that use body-fat testing is that the absolute floor is seven percent. If you're below seven percent, then you wrestle at what you weigh, period. If you are at four percent at 135, you're a 135-pounder. Kansas is still using the 10 percent on the first day of practice rule, however.

Well I could explain an answer to your question OldGuy but simply put KSHSAA is one of only a few states left in the NFHS that does not follow its weight procedures, by choice. Wreslters in Kansas are allowed to lose a certain amount of weight based on the very first weigh in at the first practice I belive it is like 5-10% something like that. After that a doctors note must be obtained. Body Fat testing and hyrdration testing are not used in Kansas and probably won't be for some time to come

okay, this wrestler is weighing 128.2 today but now has less then 4% body fat. I need to know from any high school coaches visiting this site if he is able to wrestle 125lbs or if because of his body fat, he can not, and has to go 130lbs.

any comments from High school coaches would ge grateful.

I am a High School Coach. In Kansas there is absolutely no provision regarding body fat or hydration testing. Each wrestler can lose up to 10% of their body weight, which is established before their first practice begins. If a wrestler wants to lose more than 10% an note from a doctor establishing it would not be harmful to the wrestler to lose the weight is required.
I am not 100% sure, but I believe the reason Kansas does not use body fat or hydration testing is expense, and also many of the smaller towns would not have access to it.
