Starting a new thread to see what people think:

Problems: Accusations of 'weak' Regionals, Losing Records at State, Regional 'lock outs' of wrestlers who can't make state.

Solution: (Pardigm shift - bear with me)

1) Do away with Regionals.
2) Keep State but...
a. Take each class and have a 4,3, or 2 day tournament as needed per size or the schools(i.e. 64, 32, or 16 man bracket). Pig tails may have to be wrestled, but governed strictly by state rules/officials, etc.
b. Each school brings one wrestler per class. Seed and bracket accordingly. Probably seed top 16, 8, 4.
c. Best wrestlers at end of tourney are 'really' that - the best in the class.

Advantages:

1) No more piss-ant arguments about easy regionals or improper seeding, etc
2) Each KSHSAA class can keep/claim permanncy on State site (i.e. Hays, Wichita, Salina, etc).
3) Frees up a week to execute alternative event (Grand State, Dual State, whatever)
4) Heck of a lot easier for college recruiters - one stop shopping.

Disadvantages:

1) No more Regional trophies - this might seriously impact/stunt/mar some coaches', fans' or wrestlers' egos (tongue in cheek)
2) Seeding session would be kind of fun to watch -probably better than a lot of the matches
3) All schools would have to participate - at cost -
4) Revenue loss for Regional site and (indirectly) KSHSAA.

No yelling please.

The seeding meeting would take longer than the wrestling most likely.

sounds like a great idea Tim. I do think if we make it a four day tourny we need to make it two weekends the first weekend you get it down to the top 16 the second weekend you have a true top 16 at each wieght. Hey while your running this why don't you go ahead and wrestle the loser on the championship side with the winner of the consolation side and if the winner comes from the consolation side he has to wrestle the winner on the championship side that way we have a true 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th.

Why dont we just have a round robin! That is pretty much what you guys are talking about, and then we could make it over 4 weeks that would be great. How about this we just keep it the way it is, it has been working just great!

bull,
I fail to see how Tim's idea resembles a round robin.

Bull,

No, I'm not talking about a round-robin. I'm also not suggesting an extenuated period of time. What I suggested is clear. I think it answers the objections of those who believe the current system is flawed. I'm also not 'demanding' change...just an academic interest in the problem.

Tim
