I saw where Thomas Rhodes wrestled a dual at 171. I don't know if he will stay there or not but this got me thinking. What is the biggest weight jump a wrestler has made and won two state championships? For instance: Rhodes won at 119 and if he would win at 171 then that would be a 52lb jump.
That would really be something. I recall — back in my Iowa days — a kid that was 103-pound champ as a freshman, went through a couple of years of injuries and struggles then won it senior year at 152. It does happen — wrestling is always more important than weight.
Noah Clouse of Effingham won it at 152 his sophomore year, 189 his junior year, and 215 his senior year. That is a 63 pound jump from 152 to (a small) 215. But Clouse was just an animal.
As a junior Kelly Gabel won state and 145 I believe and the next year he won at 171. That is a big jump for just one year, and I am pretty sure he went undefeated each year.
He was not undefeated. I know of at least 2 losses as a junior. Crabbs from Hutch pinned him and Koster from Hoxie pinned him. Koster, I believe, beat him a few times that year
