For once Nigel i agree with you on the fact that Basketball is stupid and a newspaper that doesn't report on a steady basis on wrestling is not adequate to pick all-area picks

I personally think that the Salina Journal waited until the Senior Classic was over to come up with their picks. This is wrong. Wrestlers in the event were out of shape and did not care about these matches as much as they did about matches during the actual high school wrestling season. If non-KSHSAA events are going to be used to determine all-area picks, then free-style results should b used, as well as the BRUT national tournament in Omaha. Only in-season matches should determine all-area picks, anything else is a great injustice to everyone.

And along with using freestyle, senior classic, etc. then federated should be used where Levi Younkin beat Garcia at districts. (oh yeah cole threw a fit too)

I know a lot of papers that just went off of placings at state this year, because they didn't follow wrestling at all through the season. My area's being one of them. So instead of first team, I'm second team to a kid that I pinned and had half the losses of. However, he beat me in overtime at state. I'm still kinda irked because the ref said he saw a locked hands call when I was getting a reversal on the kid but he told me he second-guessed it to send it into overtime where I lost with five seconds left. Still, that's how it goes.

Regardless though, these awards mean nothing, they're just a cool thing to possibly get. Very few papers are adequate to cover them and it sucks but oh well.

That being said, Annon should have gotten it.

Hey pizzaface, haussermann beat glaze at state, who I believe always beat sharpe, that's prolly the reason he is ahead of him and glaze.

Glaze never beat Sharpe. He was probably 6-0 against him the last two years. What else do you got?

Way too excited about the Journal's picks. They do a decent job, but their goal is to sell papers. Every year they end up with some (not all) curious (but strategically located) choices. Rarely do they take into consideration improvement, strength of schedule, strength of bracket at state, etc. The BCS they ain't! . . . of course that could be a good thing . . . hmmmmm

Sharpe was also 3-2 against M. Schippers this year, the 1st teamer. Not saying Sharpe should be above him, but just wondering what Hausserman's record was against the Hoxie kid?

I believe many of you are missing the point. First of all, to say the Salina Journal has inferior coverage is totally wrong. You obviously don't read the Wichita, Topeka, and Hutchison papers on a regular basis (just to name a few) or you would realize that the Journal surpasses these papers by leaps and bounds. How many of these papers even have all-area teams with full-page layouts and a front page picture?
Secondly, it is not a perfect system and not everyone is going to be satisfied. Even the BCS can't get it right and that's just a slightly bigger deal than this. I feel we should all be grateful for the coverage and commend the people for the job they do. If you want to be disappointed, be disappointed with all the other major papers in this state.

I guess they looked at state placings then pizzaface, that's all there is to it. Too bad they didn't use this strategy at 130.

I agree with Coach Moore! Christian Orr has put many hours into making the Salina Journal one of the top papers in the state that cover wrestling! He has written plenty of stories about huge tournaments as well as large articles on some of the top area wrestlers during the season! He just doesn't go down to state and then begin following wrestling that weekend like other papers do. He follows the sport just like most of you people do all season. I think the Salina Journal's picks were pretty accurate and I'll stand behind them as well!

Yes I would have to say that Mr Orr does a good job for as much as he does. But hes the only one doing it at the Journal, and as I said the coverage of wrestling is nowhere near that of basketball. Even though South in the past has had some really good wrestling teams, back when Coach Warkentine was around and even after that.

Sorry but i think that annon would beat garcia. Annon beat him in kids. garcia is really good i was glade when he beat jake. But annon didnt beat jake but that was not in the season and i bet you money that annon wasnt in shape. and jake was because he wanted to show everyone that he could bet annon but its to bad jake didnt wrestle annon during the season when he was in shape. Like at clay center when abaline didnt show up. I think annon should of been second team he is a senior and has won two state championships and did bet two really good wrestlers in both of them. But its over and done with so. Good Luck to Cole next year.
