I was wondering some predictions for teams returning next year in each class. I know Ark city had a young team and is returning over 80 state points. I wonder what Hoxie, Hutch, Derby, ClayCenter, Colby, Effingham, Emporia, etc. is returning.
Who has the most returning state points next year in each class 1A-6A?

I know Hoxie had only two seniors, I believe, on their state tourney team and Clay Center is going to be pretty good although they lost a couple of really good kids to graduation.

Hoxie only had one senior in the line-up this year. All of the state qualifiers - and the 140 team points they scored - are back. Plus they picked up valuable experience at 140, 160, 215 and 275 this year - so don't count those guys out of the mix.

Hoxie finished second to Clay Center - and ahead of Manhattan - this year at the Beloit Tournament and had three varsity wrestlers out of the line-up.

103 Cale Farber freshman state qualifier went 2-2 at state -lost to the 4th and 5th place finishers at state

112 Charlie Ochs sophomore 4th place (placed 3rd as a freshman at 103)

119 Tyrel Spillman junior State Champ (placed 4th @ 112 as a soph and 3rd @ 112 as a freshman)

125 Mat Gilliland sophomore State Champ (state champ @ 119 as a freshman)

130 Matt Schippers sophomore placed 3rd (placed 5th at 130 as a freshman)

135 Jason Schippers sophomore placed 4th (placed 2nd as a freshman @ 125)

140 Kyle Schamberger junior did not qualify

145 Cody Farber junior 2nd place (state qualifer @ 145 as a sophomore)

152 Doug Campbell sophomore 5th place

160 Alex Gaede sophomore did not qualify

171 Dustin Lewis senior did not qualify - went 2-2 at state as a junior @ 171.

189 Justin Cooper junior state qualifier went 1-2 lost to the 3rd and 6th place finishers at state

215 Fred Pratt junior did not qualify

275 Devin Cooper freshman did not qualify

Add into the mix Jay Lewis - a junior this year - who placed 3rd as a freshman @ 103 and qualified @ 135 as a sophomore (despite weighing about 125), but could not make the team this year. Some of this year's JV kids have the talent to challenge for a varsity spot. Also add Tyler Baker (Kirk Baker's youngest son who will be a freshman next year) and a couple of other talented freshman-to-be to the mix and it becomes quite clear that Hoxie will be incredibly tough again next year.

Hoxie continues to have declining enrollment numbers and an improving basketball program, which reduces the number of kids available to the program. Coach Baker and Coach Porsch only had about 20+/- kids in the room last year, but 10 of them were ranked at some point during the year!

During the past five years the Indians have 3 team titles (2002, 1999 and 1998) two runner-up performances (2001 and 2000). They finished 4th in 1996 and third in 1997. Also won back-to-back team titles in 1990 and 1991. Go Indians!

Shawnee Heights should be real tough next year as they only graduated one senior that started I think. Returning they have Tanner Gardner 1st @112, Phil Hart 3rd@160, and Blake Malloy 6th@ 171, they also have Jackson Waechter who was one match away from placing at 103 and Tim Schwerdt who was one or two matches away from placing at 145. They placed 7th as a team and look for them to be top 5 next year if everyone can stay healthy.

Wow! I knew Hoxie was young and talented. Sounds like they are loaded for next year. Will any teams contend with them?

The only team that can come within 40 of Hoxie next year at State may be Norton if they're 3A. If not, this could be very, very lopsided.
