As this the first state tournament to coach at I am hoping you can put my fears to rest. If I am reading the criteria for floor coaching passes correctly each club will get two passes (minus one is no one attended the state meeting), plus one for every five kids. I coach for a very small club. I worked the weekend of Salina and the other active coach (we have some minor helpers) was not able to go either. We qualified 4 kids. 3 high school age and my son who is 7 (8u). The other coach has never coached my son and I have never coached the high school kids. We have very small practice facilities and we split our practices. Anyway am I correct that we will only have ONE pass. We need at least two as there will be a time when we will have conflicts. I am scared to death that my son after working all year will have to worry that I will not be there to coach him. I realize the intend of limiting the passes, but will a wrestler be forced to take the mat without a coach, and how will a 7yr old have the maturity to tell them he can't wrestle until his coach arrives without getting totally overwhelmed. Please tell me there is a way that we can get two passes! Help. Mike Pursel-Tonganoxie Kids

In calculating the number of additional coaches passes, I believe that they round up. If that is correct, then you would receive the one free pass, plus one additional, for a total of two passes. I have sent an email to the State Tournament Director, Leanna Grater, asking her to confirm that I remembered correctly.

One other point - the coaches passes are transferable. To coach on the floor, you must have a both coaches wrist band and a floor pass.
The wrist band is given to every coach who provides proof that he/she is minimum copper certified. The wrist band cannot be exchanged.
The floor passes are given to each club, based on the number of entries, and hang from a string around the neck. These passes can be traded among coaches - as long as they also have a wrist band, they can all rotate on & off the floor.
I realize that you would still be concerned that two of your four wrestlers would come up at the same time, but I wanted to clarify how the floor passes work for those who might be unfamiliar with the state tournament procedures.

I am bronze certified, and that is the way I understood it as far as the transferable pass. My concerns remain the same on the transferable pass. I believe this could cause unfair stess to the wrestlers (especially a 7yr old) and increaset the risk for delays in matches as they could not take the mat until a coach arrives. I appreciate your challenges and only ask that you see that for very small numbers. The difference between one or two passes is huge. It is more magnified that a club that might get only 6 passes instead of seven. Respectfully - Mike Pursel Tonganoxie Kids.
