article 14 says any schools within 500 miles from any border in kansas can compete. so concievebly the farthest reaches of this limit would be utah, south dakota, wyoming, illinois, iowa, minnesota, texas, new mexico, arkansas, tennessee, kentucky, mississippi and possibly louisana?

problem is, finding schools that actually have programs within these borders. but you could have schools from say, memphis, st. louis, denver, lincoln, little rock, oklahoma city, dallas, cheyenne, rapid city...but would be out of reach from cities such as salt lake, chicago st. paul, alberqueque(sp).

now with these schools i'm sure you could have a great tournament, but would it measure up to the caliber of the iron man, or other eastern tournaments?

but that 500 mile limitation doesnt get to the big east where apparently competition is a little stiffer, or the far west either.

i would be curious to know. why the 500 mile limit?

does anyone know or heard of any schools from say tennessee or arkansas or from the farther reaches of the 500 mile limit that have come to kansas to compete?

Well the backwater state of Arkansas officially does not recognize wrestling as a sport. If im not mistaken, no school in Arkansas offers wrestling at all. So i guess we can safely say that Arkansas is not an option.

a team from texas came up to the derby tournament last year. they just started wrestling a few years ago and that team was a state champion team. well, they have finished dead last two straight years at derby. in fact they had a 3X state champ go 2 and out so i don;t think they are that good of a state in wrestling.

Texas is a very young in terms of wrestling years. They are weak now, but give them 10 years and they will be a wrestling power. That many kids in one state has to scream SUPER POTENTIAL for wrestling talent.
