Just a reminder of the new rule regarding eligibility for weight classifications at the Senior Nationals.

Aaron Bird wrestled at the KSHSAA 5A State Tournament at 135 lbs. and if I understand the rule change correctly, will be eligible to participate at the 135 lb. weight classification and not 130 lbs.
NHSCA Senior National High School Wrestling Championships!

Weight Classes

103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 275

There will be one weigh-in for the entire event with a 3-pound weight allowance example: 103 weight class will be 106 pounds

You cannot enter a weight class below the lowest weight class you wrestled during your senior year in either the State Duals or individual State Championships at the end of the year.

However, you can enter any weight class higher than the one you wrestled your senior year in either the State Duals or individual State Championships at the end of the year.

Is Bird the guy that got beat 15-0 in the finals? I know him and Chenowith probably want to get a better taste in their mouths to end their high school career.

Also here's a question regarding people that are eligible to go to High School Nationals. Tyler Thoreson took 1st last year at 215 but went up to 275 this year, does that mean he has to wrestle the 215 weight he made in the finals of 2004 or can he wrestle HWT?

I thought Aaron Bird was a junior, I'm going to miss that little turd. He was a blast to coach, teach, and watch on the mat. Good Luck in the future Aaron, work hard, enjoy the journey when ever you can and the destination will decide itself.

So you wrestle the weight you wrestled at state your senior year even if you don't make the final 2 that year but did at a different weight?

It is confusing. Most of the posts on this topic are about senior nationals, I haven't picked through each one, though. I imagine there are a lot of people interested in who's going to high school nationals AND senior nationals. I say we scrap this post and start two new ones, one for high school nationals and one for senior nationals.
