This year's speaker for the Ottowa County Relay for Life is 25 year old Hodkins-Lymphoma Survivor: Aaron Sweazy of Chapman, KS.

Sweazy who was recently nominated for a 2005 Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG award. The award recognizes an individual who demonstrates a resilient attitude toward his or her cancer diagnosis and inspires otheres to live strong.

Aaron's courage and accomplishments have inspired countless others to achieve their goals and aspirations. A 1998 graduate of Chapman High School and a varsity wrestler all four years of high school, Sweazy was awarded the "Triple D" Award in 1998 for his Discipline, Dedication, and Determination to the sport of wrestling by his alma mater.

Following his graduation Sweazy went on to achieve noted success at Butler Community College in El Dorado, becoming a college senator as well as homecoming king. He participated in a showchoir group that traveled to Branson, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee to perform. Sweazy was also privledged to be the radio voice for the 1998 and 1999 NJCAA National Champion Grizzlies Football Team.

After graduating with an Associates of Arts Degree from Butler in 2000, he moved on to pursue his passion of wrestling in college by attending the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma. During his duration at UCO, Sweazy was named a college ambassador as well as a student senator. He competed twice for the Mr. Central Oklahoma title and took home third place honors with the title of Mr. Congeniality in 2001 before becoming the school's last Mr. UCO in 2002.

A backup member of the UCO wrestling team that finshed third in the nation his first season on the team before winning back to back National Titles, Sweazy has been around success quite a bit. During the 2001 season Sweazy backed up current #1 ranked USA Wrestler Muhammed Lawal. 2002 season was cut short with a torn ACL, but Sweazy fufilled his college wrestling dream of achieving a varsity letter in his final season in 2003 wrestling at the 197 pound weight class.
Sweazy went on to Graduate in the fall of 2003 before life as he knew it would become topsy turvy going from 15% chance of survial to remission a mere month ago.

To hear Aaron Sweazy's testiment please attend the Relay for Life in Ottawa County at the Minneapolis High School Track located at 602 Woodland. The Relay will last all night long with Sweazy kicking off the event at approximately 6:45pm to be followed by the luminaries and survivor's walk.

I've been asked by Seward County Community College, and Oklahoma State amongst others to come and speak...it would be a good way for me to see the country and raise money to pay my medical bills and student loans back.
