Thats right

Abilene 39 Clay Center 36

Which means tht at the very least they will share the NCKL title, the only way they won't win it outright is if they lose to Chapman who isn't as good as Clay Center in my opinion.

I didnt get a chance to make the drive from Concordia to Abilene to watch this one, but from what i heard Caldwell and Gilbert didnt make weight for Clay Center this morning. Caldwell would have been at 112 and Gilbert would have been at 140. Nigel if you know them, could you post the results of each weight class as soon as possible please?

It was sealed up for Abilene after 160 fall by Taplin. Lund was the only guy for Clay to win in the lower weights for Clay, and Taplin the only Cowboy to win in the upper weights. By the time they were done with all of the senior recognitions and stuff I'm not sure of the actual start time, but a lot of bonus points tonight with 8 falls, 2tf, 2md, and the forfeit...only one match was close and it was a pretty good one with Lund and Dawson.

Why did Lund move up to 140. Was he afraid of messing up the regional seeding?

Lund moved up because Clay was trying to win the dual. That's it.

Yeah it was a nice thought until Taplin stuck our pour kid in 30 seconds. Usually it is the coaches decision to move up kids, not theirs. If our 152 and 189 lbers would have pinned then it would have been tied, but i'm going to shut up now since it's a done deal. Congrats to Abilene. I'll post results to tonights dual with Con and Clay. I would like to see results of Chapman and Abilene also.

That should be no problem on the Chapman - Abilene results, btw for anybody coming from Abilene into Chapman tonight the local gas stations are selling the Chapman paper which will have a rundown on the history of the dual and some other tidbits and stats.

The Abilene Reflector-Chronicle Article - Abilene vs. Clay Center

Cowboys defeat Clay Center 39-36, will at least share NCKL title

ABILENE--The Abilene Cowboy wrestling squad kept alive a perfect dual streak this season, squeaking by Clay Center 39-36 Tuesday night at home.

The win gives Abilene at least a share of the North Central Kansas League title.

"I feel fortunate that we were able to win against Clay Center," said James Stout, coach. "They are very solid at the top weights and we are very solid on the bottom weights, which made for an interesting dual."

While the dual was very close in scoring, Stout said many of the matches fell the way he thought they would.

"The difference in the dual for us was the pins we got early," said Stout. "We led 33-0 after the 135 match. They took a lot of the heavy matches, but I knew they were really tough there."

Matt Rein (103), started the Cowboys off with a quick win, defeating Nathan Gile by fall in 48 seconds.

At 112, Donnie Davidson followed with a win by technical fall over Taylor James, 17-1.

Tanner Dawson took the 119 match by forfeit, since the Tigers were empty at that weight.

Luke Geske (125) won by fall in 52 seconds over James Huber. Jake Kriegbaum defeated Jake Huber by fall, taking the 130 match with the fastest pin of the night at 44 seconds.

Josh Peterson (135) defeated Jordan Kolterman by major decision 12-3. After that, things got a little tougher for the Cowboys.

Clay Center's Brendan Lund (140) defeated Brice Dawson by decision, 8-3. At 145, the Tiger's Danny Grater defeated Chris Wilson by fall at the 1:37 mark. Kyle Allen (152) defeated Abilene's Ryan Jared by technical fall 18-1.

Ross Taplin (160) put an end the the Tigers streak momentarily, defeating Jezeriah Rush by fall at 1:37.

The Tigers took the remaining matches, with Josh Marrs (171) defeating Aaron Zimmerman by fall; Nate Boyer (189) defeating Terry Schoby by major decision 15-3; Jacob Marrs (215) defeated Kris Schneider by fall at 1:46 and Travis Weller defeating Sean Nonamaker (275) by fall at 1:00.

"The guys in our heavy weights didn't give up easily, and they had some very tough matches," said Stout.

There were four junior varsity matches at the beginning of the dual. Abilene's Nathan Wuthnow (130) defeated Tyson Pruser by fall in 45 seconds. At 145, Cowboy wrestler Chris Miller defeated Ryder Ward with a 6-4 decision. Quentin Cole (152) lost his match against Nick Gunter by fall at the 2:12 mark and Abilene's Caleb Flynn (171) lost by fall to Michael Bowser at 2:17.

The Cowboys are 8-0 in duals on the season and 4-0 in league duals. They will travel to Chapman on Thursday (6:30 p.m. start time) for their final dual of the season. A win over the Irish will clinch the NCKL title for Abilene.
