What's the scoop on potential classification changes for this season? Any schools with a sizeable enough of an enrollment change to put them on the bubble?

I may be wrong, but I don't think schools send their enrollment figures to the KSHSAA until September 15 or 20 (at least that's the way it was done in some years past)...

If you open up the KSHSAA site, click on the "News" link and the click on "2003-04 classifications" you will see that it says they will be released Sept. 29.

And while I'm no longer coaching there, I can tell you that the newly-formed Maur Hill-Mt. Academy in Atchison will be 3A. Since Maur Hill no longer has to double their enrollment and can just count the Mount's girls like everyother school, they will be well under the 4A/3A cutoff.

I realize the final date for determination is well ahead of us.

But was curious to hear what changes folks are speculating on occuring.

One I had heard was that with the domino effect that the new Olathe high school would cause, there was a pretty good chance Paola could end up in 4A. Also, I'll be interested to see if Royal Valley sticks in 4A.

I would be very surprised if Royal Valley wasn't 4A again this year. Last I heard, enrollment was up.

i think russell has a legitamate chance to go 4A this year...we have a great big freshman class so it'll be close

Actually, that big freshman class won't matter insofar as wrestling this year goes. This year's classifications will be based on the enrollment of the top three grades (10-12). When the new football classifications are announced for 2004-06, those will be based on this year's enrollment in grades 9-11. So Russell may not be 4A this year, but maybe next.
