I was on the KSHSAA page and came across Classificaions for the next two years?
2002-2003 & 2003-2004

Augusta & Independence moves to 5A

Mulvane & Paola moves to 4A

Caney, Fredonia, Norton move to 3A

Those are some of the changes I noticed.

But, since the football classifications are based on LAST YEAR'S freshmen, sophomores and juniors, which are the same classes that will be sophomores, juniors and seniors THIS YEAR, chances are the changes will be pretty close to the same.

I understand that and I know Football is for two years. It's just I have never seen them change it after the school year before?
They take the enrollment numbers after School has started go by those numbers and wait until next years enrollment.
Those changes were made after the school year?

Actually, those changes were part of those released last fall when the football classifications were released. They came out the same time as last year's regular classifications.
As both jrob and I said, those changes don't necessarily mean that's what you'll see this winter for wrestling, but it's probably pretty close.

The official count day will be Sept, 20th. They will be counting the Soph, Jr, and Sr classes. These are the same kids that were counted on Sept, 20th 2001 as Fresh, Soph, and Jrs for this and next years football classification. Any changes should be minor, but if some kids quit school or moved in or out of your district and you were one of the largest or smallest schools you well could change. In the past these changes usually occur in a fast growing suburb, or in a district where a major employer closed. Also the opening, closing or consolidating of schools affects the whole thing. I understand a new 6A school is opening which should push one in each class down. There also are some teams that co=op for football such as Sabetha/Wetmore that use the combined enrollment for football and not for other sports which would move Sabetha down and Caney up for wrestling based on 2001 numbers.

Campus last official count which would make them the smallest 6A was 878. Goddard had 877 and would have been the largest 5A, Salina Central also had 872 and was close enough to easily get moved up. I had read last year when Blue Valley spun off another 6A school that Olathe was going to open another 6A this year. I haven't seen anything since. Is Olathe opening another 6A school this year?? If so, all three of the others listed above)will likely be 5A.

The new Olathe high school is scheduled to open the beginning of the 2003-2004 school year. All 3 Olathe schools should definitely remain 6A this year.

If anyone wants to see last year's official enrollment figures, go to http://www.kshsaa.org/fbclass-new.html .

The 2002-03 numbers should be released in late September.
