Nick Shumate will win 103 6A. He is an excellent wrestler who barely ever loses

I asked on a different forum and got no reply...but what does Shumate weigh? High School 103s often come down from 120-ish. Even a good wrestler can't give up that much muscle. Will Shumate be big enough to be a contender?

What weight do you think the Winfield kid who won state will go at? Can he make 103 again?

Garrett Harding from winfield who won 5a state over Ryan Madden from Liberal will probably try to cut to 112. He wrestled 120 for kids. He should be in the finals with Madden again at 112.

Not having high school experince at 103?
Freshman coming in from state and national success in the kids program will do well. Lower weights with less muscle mass are always more friendly to the freshman. A freshman many times may not be able to match muscle to muscle with upperclassmen, but 300 or 400 kids matches frequently levels the playing field with tactics and technique. My son, a good but not great wrestler with 400 kids matches, beat a number of HS State qualifiers on his way to placing at Kids State at 120 his 8th grade year. His first match of the freshman year he wrestled a HS State qualifier and pinned him. A lot of upperclassmen that didn't come thru the kids program don't understand how competitive the freshman with hundreds of kids matches are.
