Why is there riding time points given in college wrestling but not in high school wrestling. I know that in Cleveland this weekend, I rode a few guys out for well over a minute, but I wasn't able to turn them, so I did a whole lot of work to not much avail.

I would love to see riding time in highschool wrestling. If ref. will call stalling more, and make both top and bottom man work to improve.

I think they should experiment in the future say at the Senior Classic Dual by using riding time.

Actually Curtis, its funny that you should ask that question. The riding time as it is in its current form is a way to determine a winner for two competitors who are equally talented on their feet. A man who can ride his opponent for 1 minute while the other often signifies who is the better wrestler for that match. In other words all things being equal, if two wrestlers are good in their feet, then the wrestler who is the better rider often proves superiority. Which is why often times a college wrestler will get thier 1 point for riding time and then go right back to the feet.

I guess it shows my age, but I remember years ago when pointswere awarded for riding time in high school. I think this was changed in the early seventies to increase the action in the match. All some people did was ride for the entire period and nothing else. It made a boring match for the spectators.
