My son was in the 6U 49 at Topeka over the weekend. He wrestled a kid from Topeka in the 49 class but the child had been marked with a 52 lbs on his arm. Looking at this child, there was no way he was close to 49 lbs. The same child did the same thing a couple tournaments back and won. I'm not whinning because my son lost (not to this kid but to another kiddo) but there seems to be something wrong here. I brought this to the attention of a coach who's kid was about to wrestle this 52 pounder. He went to the head table but was told "they hadn't weighed the kid in" and the mark must "have been a mistake." Please...Anyone know where and how can this be addressed. Thanks.

Reference the quote above, "They" refers to the person at the head table. I'm not trying to create a huge stir here, just want to keep it from happening in the future. Not sure if this kiddo placed in the tournament either.

Combining 49 lbs. and 52 lbs. together fill a bracket is not uncommon. "They" are trying to give you more matches. Several weights will be done this way at each tournament.

Henry Gallet and Bob Lorson were tournament directors for this tournament. I was involved with bracketing and running this tournament. I can tell you that this was not mentioned to any of us. We did combine some 49-52 pounders. Like was said before, this is a common practice at tournaments to provide more matches. If you read the rules you will see that it is legal to combine up to a 15 pound difference. Personally I think that is too much difference and will never do that. Not that it matters, but I have been doing this for many years and feel like I have to defend myself in this situation.

I don't mean to make light of the situation but we are talking about 3 pounds here, thats three burritos at taco bell, hardly enough to make a real noticable difference.

ive noticed that sometimes the markers that are used to mark the kids take a long time to wash/wear off. I have had my kid marked at 8U 61 for one tournament and the next week been wrestling 8U 58 but you can still see the previous mark. I know this is ticky-tack but sould there be a standard of what type of marker is used to mark on the kids? (preferably one that washes off within a few days, yet stays on for at least one shower session for those of us who weigh in our kids the night before) I have seen that Sharpies work best and wash off in less than a week however, other types of markers take a week or more to wash off. This can also relieve some of the confusion at weigh ins if say a wrestler wrestles up a few weight classes one week but is a true weight class a few classes down. bah nevermind like i said it is ticky-tack anyhow.
