It was a great gutsy performance by the lads from Kansas! The ending was a bit tense and perhaps the best sportsmanship was not displayed.

However, that aside, the Kansans did a great job! Jordan Miller being defeated by a technical fall saved a point. Hudgins got a late escape to make his loss a straight decision. Lance Serbousek with an overtime win as well as Jason Pyle in OT.

Tomorrow night, I will have bout by bout reports on the matches!

Randy - Were there any "upsets" so to speak? In just looking over the results quickly nothing jumped out at me as a large upset. It looks like Kansas won the ones they had to and minimized the damage on the ones they lost.

Serbousek beating the undefeated Hunter might be considered an upset. Also, Millstead was not expected to hang with the 4X champion Senzee. The kid that Pyle beat in OT was also undefeated. Pyle was down most of the match and tied it late in the 3rd. I was concerned about Shippy at 189. He was the 215 MO state champion. I don't know what he weighed during the season but I thought that him pulling to 196 would give him a big size advantage. Mamie actually looked a bit bigger than him.

To answer sportfan02's question, yes! The sportsmanship on both sides was a bit lacking in the end but don't let that distract from the overall performance!

Barry, I think you hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't say there were upsets in any bouts. As you said, what the lads from Kansas did, was minimize the points lost to a few of their real studs.

For instance, Mark Millstead was facing a 4-time State champ, and lost by a 3-4 decision! Granted it was still a loss but I think Missouri was planning on bonus points in that match and a few others!

p.s. Barry, did you get me email?

nice job by payne. yes, he lost but a lot of people predicted a pin and by only losing 5-0 he preserved the win for kansas.

I agree. It was a great team effort. Hudgins getting that last escape, Millstead wrestling tough, Almauger wrestling to the whistle, Nill and Hall coming through big... JoPa showed a lot of heart in spite of the MO crowd riding Carl. I guess if a bigger kid pushes you off the mat, it's stalling.

WELL worth the watch, there were some good matches and the cameras were right on the corners of the mat.
