Will the entries or brackets be posted for the 6&U State tourney in Ottawa?

For the kids that are wrestling to qualify for 8 and under will their weights count for 6 and under state weigh in. I know last year they counted them if we had paper filled out from our district. Example: we weigh in Sat at JC will that weight count for Sat/Sun weigh in, at Ottawa?

Why would they not just step on the scales at Ottawa?

Everyone should weigh in Ottawa.
Making weight on Friday night for a Sunday tournament is not fair to all the kids.

Agreed. If they are going to allow the district kids' weigh-in on Friday, then they need to allow for a Friday weigh-in for ALL. If they don't, that is most definitely bravo sierra. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Is there anybody in an official status that has confirmed this allowance for the district kids as is related to K-6U State weigh-in?

It is my belief this will constitute an illegal weigh in and is not provided for under the current Kids Modifications to the NFHS rules.

I will provide a more detailed explanation as time permits.

Sounds like theres alot of 6/under kids dieting or God forbid dropping weight. Am i the only one on this thread that thinks a 6 year old should not be worrying about weight the night before a tournament? Maybe the 6 year old should be wrestling up. unless you want the kid to hate wrestling before they get to 10/under.

I dont know why they allow this. It does not matter to me either way. My son is 61&under & weighs 59 see you in ottawa.

So, let me get this straight, I can weigh in my six year old @ Districts in Winfield on Friday night (and with the paperwork) that will count for his weigh-in in Ottawa? My husband has to work on Saturday, so it's gonna be a drive up and a drive down on Sunday. Was wondering if we could save some time. Does anyone know if they will post the entries? Just curious. My son wrestles at 58lbs.

No one is trying to cut a 6 year olds weight however some of the District tourneys will not get over until late and then they may have a long drive ahead of them(several hours) I mean Ottawa is in the Northeast corner of the state!Give the little guys a break no 6 year old is going to gain pounds overnight! Maybe ounces! besides:

Rule 4-5-1 &
Rule 4-5-3
The weigh-in procedures shall be determined by the tournament director. Wrestlers shall wear a competition style singlet at weigh-in.

Pasted from current kids constitution! This is not a weight allowance but a weigh in procedure!

I have all the faith in Mr. Salyer and his knowledge of the rules, BUT Ell makes a good point, if the tournament director of this tournament has determined that a weigh in from a remote location is acceptable then this could in fact be done like this. Personally I don't think it really matters all that much at this age group. The percentage of kids cutting enough weight at this age group to gain an advantage would be VERY slim. Assuming they cut 2 pounds and then went back to that weight after Friday night isn't going to produce any profound effect. The kids on Saturday can eat and gain as much weight after their weigh-in as the Friday nighters do.

ell, i wouldn't say "No one is trying to cut a 6 year olds weight"; unfortunately there are parents who put ridiculous expectations on there kids; glad to hear your not one of those parents; i also disagree with a child being able to gain pounds over 2 nights; i agree with rough; needs to be fair to all; good luck to all the rest of the year. (unless your in my sons bracket)

It would be really wonderful especially for the kids coming in from Western Kansas to have that opportunity to weigh in for Districts if they are wrestling there to help save them on some time for Ottawa.

Realistically, I agree with a few of the posts--how much is a 6 year old really going to gain in one/two nights?...especially if they made it to District's? They are still going to need to maintain their weight for State if they make it through District's. I believe we push "losing weight" or "making weight" way too far with the little ones. They need to be able to eat healthy & have fun.

Yes the whole point here is that they are 6 under! And remember that at state we weigh in on friday and fanals are on Sunday! Correct me if I am wrong but we don't weigh in again on Sunday!

All of this highlights why this tournament needed to be held at least three weeks ago. Most six and under kids were ready to be done and this tournament drags the season out far too long. I strongly support holding it on the Sunday after the High School state tournament. No early weigh in, no conflict with Districts, no arguments. It needs to be held in the central part of the state to be fair to the 380 six and under kids from District 4. The Salina Bi Center would be perfect. The mats will be there from 4A state and there is plenty of hotel space for a one age group tournament. What does everyone think of this idea? I know there is a wildcat proposition out there to hold it the day after districts next year in the Expo Center in Topeka. That is nice but I would love to see the wealth spread around the state. The JCWC and Topeka Vikings are already hosting the District tournament, the Ottawa Wrestling Club has an open so maybe the Smokey Valley Club and some of the others can pitch in and host six and under state in Salina.

Will,

Not a bad idea. The only challenge I see on your proposal is that is the weekend of Liberty Nationals (at least it was this year). Nothing that can't be worked through.
