I'm kinda late on this topic, I understand a little on everyones veiws. What I gather about reading what other states say about their Camps is that It's not a mandatory thing in most cases but more of a package to where a large amount of parents and clubs do not worry all to much about the transportation and motel issues. Texas I believe is 250.00 for the camp this includes cost of the camp, transportation, meals, entry fee, motel, coach and chaperone costs for the tournement. So why would Kansas charge 150.00 when its at Hays this year, and as long as you are a USA member who sets the rules on keeping you from entering a USA sanctioned event as long as you have a coach. The Team Kansas concept sounds good as long as its open to all, and don't turn into another one of those so called hand selected teams some clubs are trying to create for self recognition. Or down the road it will turn into who can afford what, and leave out some who can really wrestle due to family means, or will team Kansas offer a scholarship for these cases to help a young man participate. And as far as summer wrestling it seems the numbers have grown somewhat over the last couple years, and I for one know that it has made a 100% difference in my sons wrestling. But still most of the tournements mainly in the older brackets a two or three person best out of three / round robin. But why would Kansas want to make something mandatory and turn away any young man who wants to wrestle?
