Actually if Joe decides to get down to 215 this year, I do not think it would hurt his D-I chances at heavyweight over the next four to five years. The reason I say that is that I was just watching last week a replay of the NCAA D-I tournament in 2004 (not sure about the year). I saw Rowlands defeat a guy from Penn State. I believe Rowlands was wrestling at only about 230 and the Penn State guy was at around 260. Rowlands was quicker and in complete control the whole match. He actually lifted his 260 plus pound opponent off of his feet a couple of times. It was an incredible display of agility, quickness, strength and wrestling ability that the lighter Rowlands displayed in that heavyweight championship match.

I would like to see a Bach and Disney matchup too but I were the 5A All Star coach I would definitely work to find a way to put Stokes, Elliott, Bach and Disney in my All Star lineup this year. I also think the 5A coach would be finding a spot for Henes too by the end of the year. It will be interesting to see how it all ends up.

I would think that college programs that are recruiting Heavyweights would want kids with Heavyweight experience. I know that Baumgartner and Erickson were true Heavyweights and guys like Mocco and Konrad are bigger wrestlers. The other side of the advantage for Bach is to wrestle guys like Zlatnik, Disney and Andrus for that HWT competition vs. running the table at 215.

I was thinking that they would be 215 and 285 this year. When you move McCormick, Tanenbaum and Caldwell up, you have to try and guess 07-08 weights. With Koehn now in the line-up, the score might be more like 25-24.

I adjusted the rosters and added match predictions. (As close as the teams are, half of the matches could go the other way!)

It would be an obvious choice for Koehn to be the 5a 160lb. wrestler, but what if Cotton and Koehn are both at 5a 171 lbs? That would be interesting and the winner would wrestle Beard in the dual! This weight may shape up to be a real killer!

Cotton would be a really, really big 171 pounder. I would expect him at 189, especially if he has football plans for next year. JMO

I am guessing that koehn will be at 171 lbs. Cotton at 189lbs. Elliot at 189 lbs. or 215 lbs. and Bach at 215 lbs.

I think our best bet to see one of these match ups would be if Elliot stayed at 189 lbs. and Cotton went up to 189 lbs.

If Bach plans to wrestle Heavyweight in college why would he cut to 215 lbs. when he could win at 275 lbs. just as easy? Does it help his team?

I believe Bach would be better served to wrestle 285 and I think he would give Atticus a great match, but winning "just as easy" as he would at 215 is not the case.

I actually forgot that Atticus would be in 5a, but in any case, winning a state championship is never easy at any weght. I just meant that he would probably win just as many matches at 285lbs and would still have a great shot a winning a state title.

I think Joe should wrestle 285. The three plus months would be much more fun if he wasn't forced to watch his weight. He could eat, wrestle, lift, get bigger, punish opponents, and let the college recruiting calls flow in. I would love to see Joe and Atticus battling it out for the gold in Hutch. Kansas would be the D1 285lb factory this year!

With consideration of Joe Bach wrestling 285 at Liberal, they would have Nate Davis and Chuy Torress (Both who wrestled at State last year). They could move up covering 189 and 215 making their bottom three a pretty tuff finish for their team. Thus all three would not be pushing themselves to cut weight.
