Elliot, Koehn, Beard & Long should be interesting - to say the least.

Koehn is also a defending state champ and you left Jordan Brown at 160lbs and Jake Zahm at 135lbs out of the mix.

103-Penka vs. Snyder from Okl. not a deep weight class but a great final matchup
look for Windham in the mix

112-Deshazer vs. Tanenbaum/Rotha this is one of the deepest weight classes with at least 7 ranked wreslters; watch for Sparr, Dakin,Jones the sleeper is Cordado from Pitt

119-Keller vs. whoever makes it out of Sparr, Rose, Biddle and Rodriguez.
not a deep weight class but one of the best wrestlers in Kansas at the top

125-Keller vs. McCormick. A great matchup here between two of the best. Not much depth here otherwise

130-Tanenbaum vs. Graham. Again, 2 of Kansas' best. Look for Mainz and Shavlik in the mix with the sleeper being Zahm

135-Means vs. Maple or Livengood-A loaded weight class at the top with a great final

140-Nelson vs. Holden or Hardy. A good final but not much depth

145-Caldwell vs. Arnold- again a great final not much depth. watch out for Schridde GB

152-Detmer vs. Fisher or Tapia. This is the most stacked weight class with 7 ranked wreslters and 3 studs. Snook/Sommerfelt and Geisen battle out for 3rd

160-Rosehammer vs. Bonewell. Great matchup. Brown from Pitt is a stud and Flores and Reinhart could be in the mix. A great weight class to watch

171-Elliott vs. Beard or Koehn. This is loaded at the top with not much depth. Watch for Chad

189-No number 1 ranked kids here but a good potential final of Long vs. Bruce. watch for Kolmer and Villegas in the mix

215-Again no number 1 ranked kids. Watch for Cole vs. Downs. Hicks and Page are also in the mix

285- Disney vs. Rodriguez. Disney is the class of this weight and alll others will battle out for silver, bronze

Outstanding wrestler to go to the winner of the 152 lb weight class.
Some outstanding final matchup potentials.

Who are the out-of-state teams coming? And depending on which "Howard Johnson" Great Bends 215# shows! He should be ready to prove the critics in the Rankings wrong.

Since we have moved we are now coming to town for this tournament. We have family who want to watch on Saturday. Does anyone know the schedule so I can let them know?

Is it not somewhat incredible that Tanner Cody (senior at Bishop Carroll High School - State runner-up in 2007 - 5A @ 152 lbs) gets no mention in this tournament, or, for that matter, elsewhere. I'm not even sure that he has landed a spot on the Bishop Carroll Varsity line-up. I would presume that his skills have not diminished, but that the extra-ordinary competition with the likes of Detmer, Rosenhammer & Chad have relegated him to this curious status. I would submit that this speaks volumnes for the depths of the Bishop Carroll Wrestling Team this year. Perhaps this has occured before, but I'd like to know when!

There appears to be some confusion as to whom Goddard will wrestle at 135 lbs & 140 lbs. Any help in clearing that up?

I am sure that Ark City had many problems like this in the early 90's. They had lots of guys go from JV to state champions in one year.(sometimes multiple state championships)

Beeson could probably give some specific examples.

Tanner Cody is an outstanding wrestler. He is in the unfortunate position of being in a loaded room. Bishop Carroll, Goddard, Ark City, St. Thomas Aquinas have all had similar cases in the past where excellent wrestlers have been relegated to JV status and then became state champs or placers. This has also happened quite a bit at the NCAA level (look at the most recent WIN magazine article regarding this)
Also, there are many outstanding varsity wrestlers not wrestling their natural weights because of the competition in the room. That's the nature of the beast.

I would expect that Means is at 135 and Houlden, 140.

Eddie McGlassen wrestled 3 years on JV behind 3X Champ Chris Hernandez and 2X Champ Jerome Hernandez. Chris wrestled up a weight his JR year to make the team stronger. Eddie was state runner up his only year on Varsity.

Fred Olenberger wrestled in Jerome Hernandez spot and won the Derby tournament beating the 6A state champ. When Jerome returned to the lineup Fred was on JV.

Scotty Goodale had to wrestle up a weight his Freshman year. Could not beat 4x Champ Justin Ware. Goodale went on to win state 3x.

Brooks Travis wrestled behind Justin and Scotty. Brooks Travis went on to win two titles, pinning his way through his senior year.

These are a few that I remember.
