What is Akin Mat Army ?
Akin Mat Army wrestling academy is a supplemental training program that meets once a week. Area wrestlers train with the Mat Army in addition to their club or team practices. Eric encourages Mat Army members to belong to a local wrestling club, yet attend the Mat Army weekly to accelerate improvement. Wrestlers attend the academy for the variety and quality of work-out partners, intense training, winning instruction, and increased coach to athlete interaction.
Instructed by Eric Akin:
2x Olympic Team Alternate, US Open National Champion, 3x State Champion,4x All American Iowa State University, Former Assistant Coach University of Nebraska.
Eric has been very instrumental in the development and success of many youth, high school, college, and Olympic level wrestling standouts. He was the personal light weight coach of 2004 NCAA Champion Jason Powell. Eric has served on the Kansas National Teams Coaching staff and state youth developmental programs since 1992. Eric is also a 2008 Olympic Team hopeful w/ a current US ranking of 5th.
Who is Akin Mat Army for ?
The academy is designed to benefit wrestlers 8th grade and under. Age and size are not main concerns. However, the learning pace and material is not for beginners. Wrestlers with experience, hard work ethic, and the ability to listen and learn will benefit the most from the program.
Available Training Programs:
Mondays at St. James Academy, Instructor-Eric Akin, 6:30pm to 8:00pm, $60/month or $150 for entire season.

Sundays at Cokeley's Wrestling Gym, 6:00pm to 7:30pm, $60/month or $150 for entire season.
Each Sunday session features one of 3 instructors: Eric Akin, Dusty Spaulding (4x KS hs state champ, Jr national champ, former Univ. of Nebraska team member), Travis Phippen (2x NCAA all-American at San Fran State Univ, former submission fighting style world champion).

How do I join Akin Mat Army?
Registration is limited to 30 wrestlers, and by application only. To apply for registration you need to email eakin@kc.rr.com.
1. In the email please indicate which program you are enrolling for.
2. Also include the following information regarding the wrestler: Name, date of birth, weight, years experience/accomplishments, name of legal guardians, email address, phone number.
3. Wait for our response.
