Beloit suspends 16 athletes after party

TIM UNRUH

BELOIT — Sixteen athletes from Beloit Junior-Senior High School have been suspended for at least one sporting event for attending a party Jan. 20 in rural Mitchell County.

The school’s Principal, Kelly Arnberger, said 11 members of the boys’ basketball team, including four starting players on the varsity squad, would sit out of tonight’s home game against Salina Sacred Heart.

Because of a shortage of players, there will be no junior varsity game, but the “C” team and varsity games will be played as scheduled, along with a girls’ varsity and junior varsity game. The boys’ varsity’s current record is 9-4.

Four varsity wrestlers from Beloit were suspended from competing Thursday night in a North Central Activities Association varsity dual match in Ellsworth. A junior varsity player, who was also involved, will be suspended from a later match. The wrestling team tied for the Class 3-2-1A state title in 2007. Arnberger wouldn’t name the students, but he figured the public would know who they were by attending the sporting events.

“I anticipate they will all be dressed appropriately, sitting behind the bench,” he said.

The party, allegedly at a farm house somewhere in Mitchell County, involves many more students, Arnberger said.

There are THREE weeks remaining in the season and this is a reminder to all of our young athletes to PLEASE make responsible decisions and not jeopardize your eligibility for the State Championship Tournament.

"suspended for at least one sporting event for attending a party"

Take note ... being at a party (even without consumption) ... can get you in trouble!

Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?

I know you were only putting this up here to show others that they need to be smart. But I'm also sure those four wrestlers from beloit and even the basketball players are embarrassed enough without this being posted on the internet. All though their names weren't posted it wouldn't be hard to find out who it was. So maybe it wasn't such a good idea to post that article. Instead you could just simply say" wrestlers, the season is coming to an end and it has come to my understanding that a few have not made smart decisions, please make wise decisions."

Do something embarrassing you should be embarrassed. I thought it was more than appropriate and even showed my 8 year old so he would know how or how not to act.
