Well I don't reply here much but I have to here. I have a son who now is 10u55 He decided to go to Liberty a few years ago at 8u40 He was like your son He weight 41 lbs he was wrestling 43 in Kansas. Most of the stuff they have told you here like spiting and running may work on kids who weight more but I well tell you it does not work on a boy like mine.It well work but it takes a lot more time. Plus Its hard on them not to be kids We ran every nite in sweats We did'nt eat no candy or pop all week we went to both practices Never ate nothing but popcorn all friday.7.5 hour drive. When he got on the scales it read 40.00 the guy says boy that is about as close as you get.Plus he took a wizz right before.I ask the guy if I could weight. Sure he said I lost 22 lbs! But I weight 220. Would we do it again maybe.I tell you all of this because 1 lb for a 40 or 50 lb kid it alot different than a 90 lb kid They have no fat and less water.

I think that if just a couple of layers it is okay, if obsessive, another thing. The rule applies to various methods of inappropriate cutting methods, not just plastics. Further clarification could probably be obtained on the officials thread.

So by your lack of response to my question, "What age and weight is your child," I can only assume (shame on me) that he is younger but maybe he had some babyfat that he could afford to get rid of???

He and the coach made the decision? Losing that kind of weight should be YOUR decision, as his parent (unless his coach is his parent as well) My son told me he was going to drop 3 lbs to go to a national tournament and I told him over my dead body. He doesn't have 1 lb to lose, let alone 3.

I hope the lifestyle change you spoke of works for your son.

Agree with, "why burn him out?" But it is not the Dad or Coach pushing for it, it is the kid. He wants to give it a try. And, is good with knowing that if he can't maintain with a healthy diet then he will go back to 58 where he currently is. For a fit kid, it is amazing the "junk" he put down..substituting this with fruit and veggies has been a positive thing for the whole family! GREAT ideas. And who knows, one weight class may have no bearing at all...

I agree, cutting weight is hard, if only for a national tournament, but burning out a kid for doing this, I disagree. Yes I am a coach and a dad but have left the choice up to my kid..He told me he wants to try it, if he can't maintain the weight we will go back to our origianal weight. If he is willing to work hard, eat the right foods, and is not complaining, then why say you can't do it? Loook at the big picture these kids work their tails off all season if they drop a few pounds why not drop 1lb. to try and make state. Especialy in distict 2, who has some of the best wrestlers in the state as far as I'm concered.

I would give you little words of wisdom do not cut your boy very often they will hate you and hate wrestling. I could take one pound off my boy if I made him not drink milk after tuesday during the week drink juice. Cheese and Milk stay in the body longer and take your body longer to digest. Also never let your child stop eating this is when they will hate things they think they are starving lots of grapes and fruits all the things that are healthy to a growing boy. I think as everyone has said on here it is about changing your diet a little bit and eating healthy bake the chicken instead of frying. Also get the whole family involved that way he is not singled out. You might be surprised your whole family will probably benifit from eating healthier foods
