We have a High schooler coming back to club who has been wrestling mostly JV most of the year and filling in for Varsity every now and then for our Heavyweight class. This young man asked if he was going to be able to wrestle at the State Tournament due to the heaviest weight class listed for his age group is 265 lbs whereas the high school heavyweight is listed at 285 lbs. I know that last year the heavyweight division was increased in the 16 and Under division from 275 to 285 to match up with the high school weights a little better, I just think it would be a shame for a kid that wrestled all year with the High school not be able to come back to club because his weight class is not listed for being a younger heavyweight. I also do not know his actual weight, and he may not even be over the 265 as listed but the young man wanted to make sure he would be eligible and not have to drop 20 pounds or so if needed to make the heavyweight class for Kids State.

well he always has the choice of just going 16 and under, and also i had a friend who was in that position. He was 14 and under heavyweight and he exceeded the limit by about 20 pounds but he went ahead and dropped the weight, so i guess if he wants to wrestle heavyweight at 14 and under, he is probably going to have to drop the weight or just move up to 16 and under.

well he always has the choice of just going 16 and under, No he doesn't! You are not allowed to wrestle up in age at qualifiers or state.

of course he will have to qualify at subs and districts...but it won't matter because he weighed in tonight under 265 so the question is a moot point.
