Well little old Kansas has made national headlines. I first heard about this a week ago on the radio and was really surprised. Apparently this has caused a fairly big stirrup in the news. This story particularly interested me because I have worked with two female officials in the sport of wrestling here in Kansas.

...their philosophy of "don't allow women in a dominant position" is probably heightened even worse during the Lenten season...

Too bad officials won't ban together and boycott St. Mary's...hey, what's up with calling the school by a girl's name anyway? Doesn't that send the wrong message to the "men" at that school?

What I'd like to know is if women are allowed to teach the boys at any level in that school's system? If so, that's blatant hypocricy to their stated policy.

And if one of their goals is to teach males to be respectful to women, then what's the problem with letting women officiate a boys' game? Shouldn't the guys follow the school's teaching and respect the female official's call?

Just my $.02

I find it interesting that the school waited until right before tip-off to let this ref know she couldn't work the game. They didn't know she was a ref when the assignemtn was made, she called to confirm the date (as all good officials do), when she showed up and was shown to her locker room, when she hit the floor 20-25 mintues before???? That all happened and the and only then did they realize she was a woman and said she couldn't work?

Even though it basketball and it's a basketball official, all refs should boycott this school and not work any contests that this school wants to play.

The question I have is what if this would have been a road game for St. Mary's? Would they have pulled their boys off the court when she walked out for pre-game???

Has anyone seen a woman wrestling referree? I haven't yet, but I wouldn't be the least bit opposed to it. There are a lot of ladies out there that know a lot more about the sport than a lot of kids' wrestling coaches.

Lisa Woody (and she worked 321A state) & Chelsea Arnold (former Marion 4x state qualifier) are ones I can thin of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's others...

Shane:

This school actually did walk off the field and forfeited a football game becasue the opposing team had a female player.

There is a component of religious freedom here but that has to be balanced against the fact they are a pseudo member of the KSHSAA. If they want to play "regular" schools then they need to act regular. If they want to follow Pope Pius X then fine, just play other schools that keep women in "their place" and treat women as subservient to men.

But I've got some shocking news for these folks, there is a real good chance these male students are going get married and then they'll be bossed around by women most of their adult lives, so they better get used to it.
