Who in here wishes they could wrestle when they were twenty years old? I don't think it would be very hard to beat most high school kids.

Maybe not( depending on your skills level) but at that age you'd probably be getting drilled by college wrestlers which is who you should be wrestling.

Yeah, I tried to get into 10 and under go-go-GO-carts this summer so I could show my boys what real racin' is about, but when they say 10 and under I guess you have to be that age. And as for being twenty when you're in high school weren't you twenty when you graduated? I know I was and I kicked butt at JV badminton.

Yeah I agree with you catfan. If you are twenty there is no reason why you should still be wrestling 14 year old high school kids.

Rule 17 AGE REQUIREMENTSSection 2: Senior High Regulations Art. 1: Any student who reaches nineteen on or before September 1, shall be ineligible for interscholastic activities. Any student who reaches nineteen after September 1, shall be eligible for the remainder of that school year.

I'm 43. I weigh 175 pounds. I was average in HS and I don't think a 'kid' my size would have a problem kicking my a-- if we stepped onto a wrestling mat today. I'd tank after 1 minute, maybe 2 max. And, I'm not fat and out of shape. Jogging time and mat time are not the same thing. You must have both. I haven't had any mat time in over 15 years. Therefore, i'd get killed. And, I have always been slow (genetics: fast twitch muscle fiber ratio vs. slow twitch). So probably even the quick little dudes would make me look like a fool! ;-)
It is just a ROUGH sport and I have tremendous respect for the young men that do it well.

Brandon Bonewell from Goddard won his second state championship last night, and in the process he sealed the team title for them. He is 20 years old and has been since last fall. Can someone tell me why is still wrestling if the rule book says 19 before Sept. 1? I am surprised the Derby fans did not use this as fuel during their vocal spats with the Goddard crowd at Koch arena last night.

Maybe he lived in New Mexico for a year and they didn't count that towards his actual age...

Have you seen the birth certificate? Please, if you do not have evidence, kindly do not disparage the young person? Several years ago the Goddard Kids Wrestling Club was required to provide birth dates for their club roster in order to obtain a USAWA Kansas Kids Wrestling participant card for this young person and the birth date provided DOES NOT substantiate your claim.

I am also going to bet his birthday is 1-10 days past the September 1 deadline. I am also going to predict that Coach Means petitioned KSHSAA for his eligibility and won. (Good move on coaches part) Brandon Bonewell is a man for sure! But can't say any of what I said is fact.. only prediction. But, I don't think Brandon needs to post his birth certificate online either...haha! When I was 20 I was a junior in college wrestling and trying to survive!!!!!!

Church, you would be right. This is not that rare. Of course, neither is jealousy. Brandon was a state champ last year, and the year before he tore ligaments in his hands to end his season. He's a great kid that's worked extremely hard to become the physical guy that he is.
Lets wrestle: Nice job spreading untrue information. Derby doesn't need people making excuses for them. They are a class act team that had a great season. It's too bad someone had to lose. You are not helping Derby, and you're not hurting Goddard.
