We weighed ours in for our tournament, never heard it was an option.
My 23 yr old cousin is autistic and he competed many yrs and still does some in Special Olympics. I don't see the special needs as the young mans challange, I would only be concerned for the 10#s of difference as a safety issue with an inexperienced pair.
