Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School Teams Wanted - Derby Tournament.

Derby High School would like to expand their Varsity tournament. We currently have 16 teams. Blue Valley Northwest, Wichita South, Shawnee Heights, Wichita Heights, Ark City, Derby, Bishop Carroll, Rose Hill, Goddard, Pittsburg, Wellington, Winfield, El Dorado, Emporia, Great Bend and Valley Center. We would like to add at least 4 more. Last years tournament had the 6A state champion - Goddard, 6A runner up - Derby, 5A state champion- Bishop Carroll and 5A runner up- Ark City. Combined the tournament involved 130 state qualifers (from 3 different classes- 6A,5A and 4A), 58 state placers and 19 state champions. The tournament will be held on Jan. 9 & 10, 2008. i would like to think I will get to go to this tournament in the future. I was out of town during this tournament this year and missed it. I would hope to see maybe Chanute at that tournament next year. they have a strong junior class and that would be a great tournament for them. What about some of the tough smaller schools. Also have you tried to get any okie schools. that would make this tournament a national level tournament. is this going to be a 2 day tournament in the future.

its already a two day tournament but getting some oklahoma teams in there would be awesome

This tourney used to have a Omaha Nebraska team and Bishop Lynch even use to come. It is a very good tourney with Kansas only, but has been a national quality tourney in years past.

Didn't Blackwell, OK used to come also and were usually at the top of team standings?

I can remember going to the Miami tournament in highschool. I saw kansas state champions not even place down there. Any Okie school would probably do pretty good. Well not any but any of the top okie schools would.
