I was thinking the other day on how many programs have been added or dropped since I have graduated high school (2000)

Here is what I could remember (feel free to add to it)

Central Burden (2008-2009)

That is a nice list with just the existing schools. We need to continue that trend. With consolidation likely in the near future in so many districts, it will be even more important to be agressive in pursuit of new programs. I had forgotten about Kinsley, what a loss that was!

I heard the Imac team is going to re-start with all of the kids feeding in from the Spartans program. Great effects of a 100 plus kids team in your town.

Burden's program was dropped after the 2000 season and has now been brought back.

Randy,

Leavenworth High School had an agreement with Imac and allowed several wrestlers to participate as a part of their team (several in varsity spots all year).

They can not compete for Leavenworth at Regionals and had to attend Rossville regionals as a part of Imac.

Had Holcomb dropped their program for a while?? They had a 2x state champion in 85 & 86 -- Terri Smith. I still remember the backflip after he won it the first time.

Maybeimamazed,

I do not know if the final decision has been made. Have heard some names but will wait until they officially release. Bottomline is that we are excited that they are starting the program again.

As a new club last year I want to publicly thank Sean Sachen and the IMAC schools. They have been wonderful in their support of our program by allowing us to use their mats and one of their schools. Would also like to thank Leavenworth High School and Lansing high school because they provide wonderful support also. We end up using all of their rooms at different times during the year. Coach Schmidt and Coach Averill have been great in their support of our club. Thanks again.

This is a good oppertunity to tell you guys where I'm at right now on my senior project.

If you didn't know, Sterling Kansas is home to the first Dillon's. J.S. Dillon, founder of Dillon's, is burried in our cemetary. I used this and a few other things to put pressure on the Dillon's Company (Which is now parented by the multi-billion dollar revenue a year company Kroger) to fund up for, not only new wrestling mats, but a whole new wrestling facuility.

I am happy and proud to announce that after A LOT of harsh negotionations and NO name calling, Sterling High School's request has made it to the final board meeting and, with good luck from God, will hopefully be accepting a check in the amount of $38,000 from Dillon's/Kroger. This money will go specifically to a "Multi-Fitness Center" (Which will be specifically used for wrestling in the winter te-hehehehehe).

Thank you all for your support and suggestions. I still have to tackle the school board!

Nice work and congratulations but remember, it is likely the only thing that will impress the BOE is butts in the seats of the meeting. You need as many proponents as possible to attend in support. Try to have one spokesperson who speaks for the group. Good luck!

I think I read somewhere that Sacred Heart in Salina dropped wrestling to add bowling. Can someone verify this?

Sacred Heart didn't have wrestling. I do believe they added bowling.

How sad that Kinsley has dropped their program. Kinsley was the first wrestling program in the state of Kansas. Kinsley had an Olympic Champion and Hall of Famer, many state champions and fought on even terms with the best in the state for many many years. Those of us from there lobbied hard to get them to keep it but most of the people there are not originally from there and did not understand the tradition of it. The town had gotten very small and the school even smaller. It is still a sad turn of events.
