The Jayhawks are not interested. I was told, after this email, that the only programs that are even being considered are tennis and swimming. I am considering pulling my sponsorship at KU! \:\)

Will: Rodney has forwarded your message to me. We understand and appreciate your desire to have a Division I wrestling program in Kansas.
Right now, however, our primary goal at Kansas Athletics is to get the sports we currently sponsor onto firm financial footing....that includes everything from facilities right down the line. Only then can we think about adding other sports -- as much as we'd like to do that right now.

Kansas University doesn't have enough money to get all of their athletics on firm financial footing, what a joke. They make millions off of their basketball team every year and they don't have enough money?

I guess I should have indicated in the post that I presented a copy of Mr. Hinkley's awesome proposal on Division 1 wrestling in Kansas.

Tommy D. Most of their excess funds are targeted for buying groceries for Coach Mangino. \:\)

Like Luedke or not, he has a valid point. One of the best ways to get D1 wrestling in KS is to have TWO D2 programs that consistently achieve upper end results. I am not getting into or have a side to all the other parts of that topic. I am not knowledgeable enough on college wrestling business, or the entire environment at our D2 schools to have a opinion on coaching etc, only that success breeds success and growth. That holds true for business or sports or whatever.

The main point to consider when selling anything is "what is in it for them"...If the D1 schools don't see any gain for them, D1 wrestling will never be achieved. D1 schools must have a compelling reason adding wrestling is a benefit for them. Not just it's good for the kids, etc. College is a business and needs to be justified as such.

Dang it Will, now why did you have to go and do that?

"Most of their excess funds are targeted for buying groceries for Coach Mangino"

Some of us are in the Mangino weight category. I usually don't find many foods my stomach can't handle. Hate it - but that's the way it is. However, my stomach has a hard time with this type targeting and insults.

There are just two basic rules that are necessary to keep in mind. First, remember that this is a family oriented forum, and is regularly viewed by young wrestlers. Second, "cheap shots" will not be tolerated. If you are going to post a message critical of an individual, group or idea, you must give your true name and/or email address. Be willing to stand behind your comments, or keep them to yourself.

You know, signing your name just doesn't make it right.

I believe KS, without a doubt, has a real good chance of getting a D1 wrestling program -- for women.

As much as I hate to say this, I think it is more likely that pigs fly than any of the three Kansas schools will add wrestling. Their athletic departments are staffed, by and large, by ex-basketball people either men or women, and they have zero interest in ever doing anything that has anything to do with wrestling. I would rather see someone really tie into one of the D-2 programs with the hope that they might go big time eventually like Edinboro or some of those schools who are small division in every other sport but major in either basketball or wrestling. None of them really understand wrestling though and only Hays has it. They have no money, sooooo there you go. No Bucks, no Buck Rogers. It ain't gonna happen. They day you get a former basketball type especially a title nine supported woman administrator to even utter the word wrestling, well, watch out for those pigs.

There is no state in the country that is better than the state of Kansas to add a D1 program right now. The market is perfect with three JUCO teams just having finished in the top 10 and two NCWA teams just having finished in the top 10.

I'm certain that a team (with the right leadership) could be very profitable to a University.

With the strength and depth of the high school programs, we should also be encouraging the other Colleges and Universities in the state to add wrestling.

Kansas has plenty of talented coaches who could step up and develop winning programs across the state.

I think that wrestling is so time intensive and volunteer intensive, that we spend all of our energy making it successful at its existing levels. If we could collectively dedicate a little time to developing it further, I believe the addition of a team at not only D1 schools, but many other colleges and universities is very possible.

Let me tell you how SORRY KSU is. The last time they had a wrestler qualify for the NCAA tournament, they wouldn't even provide him transportation or a coach for the event. He had to hitch-hike to the tournament and had no one in his corner while he was wrestling. If this is what KSU does when they have a program, I'm glad they don't have one. By the way the wrestler was Coaching Legend WAYNE JACKSON.

I remember that story Beeson. But I thought Wayne Jackson wrestled at KSU. I could be wrong, anyway maybe we should try Wichita State if KU or KSU is not interesed in wrestling.

Kevin you're right! Wayne Jackson wrestled for Kansas State. I had the good fortune of watching him wrestle against OU in a dual. He was amazing.

FHSU is in the process of adding soccer. So they have money or can get the money, just different priorities.
