looking back as a child, we was poor 6 of us kids and a single mother. there was not alot of money for clothes and food , let alone sports.
i know there are family's out there that can not afford, wrestling shoes or gear, let alone fee's to enter a club, or tourny' fee's. what does a club do if they know the kid wants to wrestle but does not have the funds.
does usawks, have any thing to help with the kids with lesser means. i would love to see every kids play sports that wants to and can't due to money.
if there is not, mike juby could you check on setting somthing up, i will start by contributing $500.00 to a 1,000.00 to start this fund up.
i know what it is like to have parents, with no money, so what ever i can do to help someone i will try my best to help. evry kid should have the same oppurtunity's as all other kids. let me know mike if there is a fund, if not lets get one going.

Sounds like a good idea, but I can see it being a nightmare to administer. I think most clubs handle this on a local level. I know clubs that help with reduced fees, donated shoes, etc. I guess this works unless the club as a whole needs financial assistance. I agree that no one should miss the opportunity to wrestle because of cost.

and were not blessed with money, i would just do a roof by myself with out my guys, to donate that much, it might kill me so i would pick a small roof. but it would be well worth if it just helped out 1 kansas family to be able to enjoy our sport.

This is a great idea! I work with a lady that has temporary cutody of a young boy that wanted to wrestle, the club in her town paid the tournament fees but she still couldn't afford to get him head gear or shoes. I gave her my sons outgrown ones for this season. When my husband ran off a few years ago, he left us in that position... no money for anything, so I also know what this is like. It was tough! As a parent you sacrifice for your kids, but sometimes there nothing to give up. Let me know where this goes, because I can now help out also!

as a club leader i try to keep extra (old) shoes for any wrestler that may need them, I ask the parents that when there kids grow out of the shoes to donate them to the club so we can help someone. Also we never turn away any wrestler because he/she can not afford the club fee or the tour fee eather the club covers it or at different times coaches or parents will cover the $$$. Another place to get shoes are at thrift store ($1-3 )

I know at Derby, we have scholarship and hardship opportunities to help cover the cost of wrestling throughout the season. We also have a large assortment of donated shoes and headgear for anyone in the club to use throughout the season. All we ask is that once done, the people donate them back so others might be able to use them next year.

I can empathisize with Nix. In a similar boat when I was a kid and if it wasn't for wrestling and wonderful folks supporting it I definitely would not be where I am today.
I like Nix's idea. If it gets going let me know and I will contribute.
For local clubs here is one thing we instituted and you can try...
We have different types of fundraisers that individuals can do in order to pay for their wrestling. We also offer scholarships. Personally, as a coach, I like the fundraiser idea because it provides us the opportunity to teach kids the life lesson of working for something if you want it bad enough. We have had a pretty fair amount of success with this approach.
If anyone is interested in specific things we do please contact me.

This is the best idea I have heard it makes me glad to see there is still people out there that are in it for the kids..I know what it is like to be poor and unfortunatly my kids do too..we are definetly not blessed with money we go pay check to paycheck and on 200 a week bring home with 4 kids we do what we can what we are blessed with is a great club that has helped and family and friends..I still owe my club about close to 100 dollars and will get it paid eventually but they dont pressure it or make my kids pay for it..Thanks guys for remembering that its about the kids not about the money...

thanks 2bentleymom and all others that thought it was a good idea. but i clearly see this idea has failed going this route, so i will try getting somthing going elsewhere, to help those out in need.
maybe with some of you that are willing we could start a non profit up to help those that want to join sports that can't due to money.
i am involved in alot of programs and this will be the first that me and others have offered to donate, and there were no takers.
and to all the coaches out there, you do contribute a lot with volunteering your time while at the same time being postive role models for todays youth. thanks
