Jacob and I watched it last night. The 34 year dual win streak is an unbelievable accomplishment as is the 19 State team championships. I thought it was a fantastic story to watch for any wrestling family or fan. It is a great story for any high school sports fan no matter what their favorite sport is.
Jacob was very impressed with the great student body attendance at the dual meets and the level of enthusiam the community had for these dual meets. He wasn't impressed by how easily the competition was falling victim to all the throws that the Brandon Florida team used. I think they must wrestle a lot of Greco and are very good at throwing. It appears that the Brandon coach was able to run the kids club program for the school. That certainly has helped them keep the streak alive that long.
I believe is going to be replayed again this Monday from 2 to 4 on ESPN2. I am not sure if that is Eastern or Central time so you need to check that if you want to see the replay.

Regarding the throws, it makes for good television and for someone not used to wrestling makes it more exciting. They do a lot of Greco, and Eric Grajales is one Nate wrestled twice in the finals at Fargo, (and lost both times). It kind of sucked seeing the stop signs that he wrestled against Nathan for. On a side, I have come to respect that family, and Eric and Nate have gotten along pretty well in the past at the OTC and have communicated some. The year Nate won Fargo, one of the first people to congratulate him was Mr. Grajales and Eric. It was great to see him as well on the program. While some say he is cocky, he is really a competitor and it showed that he is also a great team leader. The program is going to reair for those that didn't see it. It is well worth watching, I have to find a way to tape it myself as it is a great story.

It appeared that they did the random draw like they do in college. The coach talked about a heavyweight in the 1980's who kept the streak alive to motivate the boys and he told them that it could come down to anyone them now. I enjoyed the documentary. But if you enjoyed "The Streak" I would highly recommend watching "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."

Here is an ESPN article that was put out.
Florida high school wrestling team's streak ends after 459 straight victories Associated Press
Updated: January 6, 2008, 10:45 AM ET
BRANDON, Fla. -- An incredible winning streak has ended for one Florida high school wrestling team.
The Brandon High squad had won 459 straight -- a national record for any high school sport -- over the last 34 years.
South Dade High School won 32-28 Saturday night to snap the winning streak.
Before South Dade's win, no team had come within 20 points of Brandon since 2002.
