What has happened to Koty Russell from Sunflower Kids? We saw him in Salina with another club but haven't seen him since. We heard rummors he's not going to wrestle...that would be such a waste. He's seemed to struggle but he's got such natural talent.

Koty left Sunflower Kids in January. He now wrestles with Lawrence Coyotes. You'll see him at Wichita and Subs.

Why did he change clubs? He seemed to be having a lot of success and he had some tough team members?

Both Chase and Koty wrestle for Coyotes. They left Sunflower Kids for personal reasons.

All you have to do is not tie-up with him. All he has is that front headlock roll. So if you don't tie-up you can beat him every time. Good Luck

Hey 5 on 2, watch out for that John Smith guy...all he has is that single leg on one side. If you can stop that, you'll beat him every time

There's how many ways to set up andfinish a single leg? Exactly!
That frontheadlock roll is kind of like the headlock. It may work for a while but while he continues to use it, other wrestlers will be advanceing in all other areas on the mat. And they'll catch 'em.

Just to put an end to this topic - I'm Koty and Chase's mom. They are both wrestling for the Coyotes club out of Lawrence. They left Sunflower Kids club for personal reasons and are enjoying their time with the new one. There are no hard feelings towards any of the coaches, parents, or wrestlers from sunflower kids. We still miss all of them very much and only wish them the best. As for Koty he's had a successful year by all standards - it will take a lot of work and determination on his part to be able to win state again. I know that we as a family support both of them and it makes me sad to see others out there so concerned about what he does or doesn't do. In his first year at 12U all we want to see from him is him giving 100% in each and every match!!! To those our there that want to beat him - I wish you luck with the knowledge that he does have more than a front headlock roll - to those of you who are supportive of him THANK YOU!! Melissa

Wow what a weekend. I wish we had done better in Wichita but it was fun watching all the matches!! Parker Madl looked great! Is he staying at this weight for state? Your right Koty Russell does have more than a front headlock roll. He looked good too. Chase wells looked strong and showed well in all of his matches. We don't see Jace Campbell much but he looks tough too. 3 out of 4 placers were from North East Kansas. Good job boys and good luck on your journey to State!!!
