I was just wondering, what is the exact rule on singlets and under shirts. Towards the end of the year I was seeing more and more people wearing freestyle singlets. Is that acceptable? I also have a couple of bigger boys that are wanting to wear a shirt under their singlet. What is the standard for this? We had one at the end of the year try to wear a short sleeve under armor and was told that it was not regulation. Can I get some feedback on that as well?

I copied these from the rules page of this web site. Hope it answers your question since no one else would.
National Federation of State High School Associations
(May 1, 2008) A revision to Rule 4-1-5 requires the wrestler's uniform to be worn as intended/designed by the manufacturer. This change gives rules support to a previous NFHS interpretation.
2008/09 Rules Modifications for Sanctioned Tournaments (references to NFSHSA rules book)
Rule 4 The legality of all uniforms will be up to the referee, and need not conform to the NFSHSA rule.

Sorry, I figured Richard Salyer would answer by now. It depends if you are talking about Kids rulings or High School. I assume you are talking about the Kids since you asked this question in the Kids forum. There is a modification on this ruling to the High School rule. Our kids modification states The legality of all uniforms will be up to the referee, and need not conform to the NFSHSA rule. This was made primarily because of some of the wrestlers using the "Freestyle" singlet. As far as the undershirts. The High School rule states " A sleeveless shirt fastened at the crotch and cut no lower in the back or front than the level of the armpits and under the arms no lower than one-half the distance between the armpit and the belt line. If sufficient reason is determined by the referee a tight-fitting, short-sleeved undershirt of a single, solid color unadorned with no more than one manufacturer's logo/trademark/reference may be worn under the sleeveless shirt." Sufficient reason is usually due to skin problems (acne) or obesity. It is still up to the Head official. Richard if this is wrong feel free to correct me.

So would a short sleeved or no sleeved, tight fitting, single color, Under Armor shirt be acceptable for a kids wrestling event? Also, what about full length tights under the singlet that covers the legs?

For a Kid's event ... it is at the discretion of the head official.
Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?
