DeKALB - The Northern Illinois wrestling team will be participating in the largest single-day collegiate meet of the season, the Kaufman/Brand Invitational, at the Lee & Helena Sapp Fieldhouse, Saturday.

Competition starts at 9 a.m. and is expected to have over 600 participants from more than 40 schools. All three NCAA divisions will be represented along with several NJCAA institutions.

While the Huskies did not participate in last season's event, at the 2006 Kaufman-Brand Open, the Huskies had nine placewinners. Redshirt sophomores Tristen DeShazer (Wichita, Kan./Wichita West) and Pat McClemore (Hinckley, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) both participated at that event and each placed fifth at the 133 and 141 pound weight classes, respectively.

DeShazer as well as redshirt sophomore Vince Castillo (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) had strong showings at the Pointer Open. Castillo won the 141 pound weight class and is 6-1 on the year. DeShazer made his competitive debut at his natural weight class of 133 pounds and finished second. He is now 6-2 with five pins this season.

After the Kaufman/Brand Open, NIU travels to Northwestern to face the Wildcats, Dec. 4.
